The pefect 3 mode R5-A3

I want to say hello to everyone, and great forum. I have learned a lot and started modding some great lights I have learned about here.

I am a mechanic and work night shift so I have plenty of time to play with lights in the dark. I have been told to find an age appropriate hobby and flashlights seam to fit the bill for now.

One of my favorite budget lights is the Trustfire R5-A3, but I can't stand the crazy strobe mode. I found a post here recently which showed a really ingenious mod to eliminate the strobe and give a usable low mode, so I tried it and I am very impressed.

So I removed the solder from the chip on the top circle and added a blob of solder to the bottom circled area, results.

Tail cap draw with freshly charged trust fire flame 14500.

High 1.648 amps
Med .467 amps
Low .168 amps

Thanks for the great forum.

What a great way to introduce yourself!

Welcome to BLF E!

Welcome to BLF and thanks for sharing that info. I remember doing circuit board mods to a motherboard and the lead pencil trick to an amd cpu to allow variable multiplier a number of years ago. I need to do that to my solarforce 1 mode xml if possible but ill try QTC first. Enjoy your stay here.

Here is some of my collection.

Great collection and thanks for the info! :)

Hi there E1320! Nice mod, nice collection, and nice introduction! We're glad to have you here. You'll fit right in. I hope you enjoy your time here on BLF.

Welcome Aboard, E1320! I just love it when people jump into modding right off the bat, brings a tear of joy to my eye

Btw, you wouldn't happen to be into drag racing, would you?

Welcome and thanks for the info!

welcome E and great work

Hehe...thought so. I've racked up more than a few miles down the 1/4 and 1/8th...

Unfortunately I live 15 minutes from New England Dragway, so I have quite a few passes under my belt.......lots of fun, but it gets pricey.

FYI both my mini mags have the match mod, one flame thrower with a KD XML single mode with 2 14500s and the other with a DX XML single mode and 2 AAs. Great mod thanks for the idea.

Whoo hoo! I love hearing about folks getting some use out of the match-mod. Sounds like a couple of nice little mini-mags.

Aloha and welcome to BLF E1320!

Let's see, now... your avatar appears to be of a gun firing, and your signature is about putting duct tape on someone's mouth; according to my calculations, you'll fit in just fine here! Now, where did the crazy strobe mode negatively affect you? Show me on the doll.....

Welcome 1320. I've done my time a few seconds at a time on the 1/4 mile, too. Good to have you here.

Wellcome to the forum E1320, and thank's for showing the R5-A3 mod. That one had passed my eyes.

Now it's done and works on my R5-A3 also.

I am really glad it worked for you, I wish more lights had this same driver.

If I am not wrong, there is another light with this driver: TrustFire S-A2

if this driver is really in the trustfire s a2 ..are you right or wrong fran ?? I have 3 of these lights I don't care much for .. please tell me there is some redeeeming quality and I'll take out the xrc and put a real emitter in it.
