Direct drive 17mm driver from Fasttech

Used one of these in a build I like the direct drive part and then have another mode if you want it. No strobe no blinkies just good ole lumens in different doses…………. Mine pulled 1.3a on a green xre with long thin wires (was trying to be conservative) will shorten them and see if it pumps up the power.

I have played around and this little beast pushes 5A through my testleds…
I have powered it with a power supply so no voltage sag…but it got hot and smelled a bit warm.

No spring and no wires, I’m afraid. But they were already on the torch.

Marc.

It does start on high every time.

Marc.

This looks exactly the same as the one in my hd2011 GK003A7

I think it must be, someone mention that earlier.

Marc.

I musnt have read that

No probs, I do it all the time.

Marc.

But it’s supposed to, right?

I’m looking for a driver like this but need the low discharge protection because it’s for a family member who will be running IMR.

Fastech website says it has but coulb like chinese lumens :exmark:

Have you measured how much seconds/minutes after power off it reverts to high mode?

thanks

Approximately 3 seconds

and do you know is this time set by/in MCU, would it decrease if I add (or replace that 334/330Kohm) resistor on top of that capacitor (for faster discharge)?

If you add another, or replace with a lower value resistor the cap should discharge faster, and revert back to high mode faster.

oh that's perfect :DI see some experimenting in near future :P

(I just wish those hot air soldering stations were cheaper :/)

+1.

It’s a good little driver. Even though it is DD it does not seem to draw too much, 3A is perfect and 1A on low. The thing I like so much is this simplicity. High or low, no nonsense.

Marc.

I received mine yesterday, about 2 weeks after I ordered it.
Tested mine in combination with one XM-L.
Freshly charged batteries (AW 2600, protected and NCR18650B 3400) it pulls up towards 3,3A on the tail. When voltage is a bit lower it will soon be closer to 2,7A.
Mine is not regulated, that is for sure. I would expect higher current if it was direct drive though.
On low, mine pulls 0,7-0,5 depending on the battery voltage.
I have not tested it with cells that are quite low.
Mine have next memory mode. :frowning: Not a fan of that, but not that annoying when only having 2 modes.
Its a little delay when changing modes where the light is all the way off.
Its a slight “whine” on low (like a nanjg 105C on low, only different whine).
I have not checked out efficiency.
Mine came with spring and wires.

For the price, I cant complain. I did not have high expectations either. But it seems like there are variations out there on this driver.
Compared to the one marcl got its easy to see that its not the same. Low is lower on mine, and I have next mode memory.
Based on my first impressions, its a decent 2-mode driver for the price.

Hi there:)))

I need some help here…

I have an XML T6 light where I would like to change the driver to something stronger.

If I put this driver with 26650 battery (eyc. 4200mah king-kong) will it blow the t6?
As i understood t6 can work on max 3000mah.

Heat doent concern me… As this is a diving light and will be always under 23C’.

Thanks for your help!

it will be fine :)

Thanks for the fast reply!

Can You pedict the about current?

Also, will this work fine for an old 3xCree Q2 drop-in which i own?
