Modding the Defiant 3C and 3D lights with Maglite parts. Beam Shots in Post #32

I vote for 2d cut to 1d and run 32650

Maybe you mean specifically to these Defiant lights. Richie086 has built a MT-G2 Torchlite:

I updated the OP to show the changes to the 3D light and I will show what is going on with the 3C light here.

I decided to go ahead and drop the stock switch and screw the body directly into the head. I am going to use a Maglite C switch in the body. I like the shorter look with the switch section removed.

With just a little sanding on the outside of the Mag C switch, it fits right in the Defiant C body. I will use the Mag boot and I am working on opening up the switch hole. I drilled it big enough to use my dremel and I will open it up the rest of the way with the dremel bit.

I had to add the completion of the switch hole and here it with the rubber boot installed.

That's all for now. I have to decide what battery to use with this.

WOW, looks great O-L :open_mouth:

ah! very nice OL…

your mods for both these lights are going to far surpass my own ability - i like your style! putting mag parts in and all

I Like it, I Like it, I LIKE IT!!! Nice work! The switch idea is fantastic!!

Thanks for sharing Justin!!

That looks sweet.

Very creative as usual. I'm watching with great interest.

Great work. Taking notes. :davie:

Updated with more photos in the Original Post.

Using cheap UV filter… quite genius…
If I dont find the lens size im looking for I now have another option…

Of course there's the thought that a UV filter would affect the light output, but I don't think a filter for the UV range should affect a neutral to white led and with the cheap filters, the coatings aren't all that much anyhow. Now an expensive one would have multi-coatings and the coating would be "noticeable", so it might affect the led. I just don't think the cheap ones will and I also think it's better than plastic, but I could be totally wrong. Besides, the UV range is something we can't see anyhow, so it's a mute point isn't it?

Thanks OL. I had a nice surprise when I got home. This thing is MASSIVE. It made my 2 x 26650 HD-2010 (which went pop when I turned it on to compare beams) look like my daughter. Tiny. Not sure what I will do as I like it the way it is. Keep up the good work.

Where did you get the reflector from? I haven’t been able to find anything of that size, but maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.

i wonder if this lens would work http://www.tmart.com/62mm-UV-Ultra-Violet-Filter-Lens-Protector_p94351.html

OL where did you get yours from??

use code s1213 on the link above and its 3.60

This is where most of us got our lenses from.

ah yes - i have one of those in my 3c (im the one who found them  )

the 3ds size is 62mm… i grabbed one of the ones off tmarts website for 3.60… lets see how it fits

The "D" Defiant is 64mm and the "C" Defiant is 62mm. I got mine for the "C" off ebay (a UV filter) and I got the 64mm from who was it? Phil? from ebay.

I don't remember the vendor on the 62mm, I just took the lowest price one with free shipping.

A lot of those UV filters aren’t even coated! They depend upon the UV absorption characteristics of the cheap glass for their UV filtering.

Also, more and more of the cheap ones are being built with the glass glued in… no retaining ring that can be unscrewed.

whoops… i guess well see if a 62mm lens fits :stuck_out_tongue:

i dont see why it wouldnt with an oring
