RaceR`s BLING 14500 P60 light. Started out as a crappy 4.70$ light.

I started this mod some time back and did not take any pictures while modding it.
I have another one of these on order, and might take more pictures then.

I started out with one of these.
I whooping price of 4.70$.

I have to say, that is one crappy light in terms of light output! But I think it looks really good, and it sits nicely in the hand.

Screw off the front bezel. Then the convex lens can be taken out from the front, its press fit. After that you can screw out the pill.

I bored out the head with a 20mm drill I had mounted in the lathe. I did not go deep. I might have only used the tip of it to make more room for the drop-in and to make a good contact point for the P60 to the body.
I also used a lathe to open up the edge of the head just a little. Then I used a lathe to shorten the reflector a little. I also removed a little on the outside to make it fit perfectly inside the head. This type of mod might be possible to do with a dremel if you work more on the head, but I just modified both just a little bit.

Stock reflector on the left side. Modified on the right.

A P60 drop-in with the “slightly customized reflector now fits perfectly. As you can see, its flush with the edge.

DX had a glass lens that fits perfectly. This will set you back another 1,86$ for a 10-pack!

As you might have seen, my flashlight is not black. While waiting for the lens to arrive, which only took 8 days (a new HK shipping record for me), I used a Dremel and polished the shit out of the light. After I had removed the paint with some caustic soda that is. I used several hours on it to get it really shiny! This was my first time doing some “extreme” polishing work. Its time consuming.

I used a drop-in with a shiny XM-L. It suits the shiny light. 8)

Im pushing out around 2.8a on a fully charged battery with the pictured drop-in. Combined with XM-L2 that makes the wow-factor quite large in this nice little BLING light.
I have had no issues with the tailcap. It seems to handle up towards 3A.

Comparied with other P60 flashlights it looks really nice!

If you are interested in my 3xAA P60 light. There is a short and simple mod thread here.
Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed my mod.

Not being much into p60 lights, but this is a very nice host, and I think this14500 host is a very suitable size for p60 drop-ins. Thanks for sharing.

Polshinghas made the difference between a bland light and a really cool looking bling light

Nicely done; I really like the "bling!"

I wonder if the bezel would screw on without shortening the reflector. Maybe use a ring/washer to close the gap?

Thanks for feedback guys. Im really happy with how it turned out.
I think the polishing really did it for this light.

A ring/washer could close the gap, but would probably not look that good.
Maybe I could have drilled deeper and it would not have made it necessary to shorten the reflector. But I played it safe. It was so easy to just take of 1-2mm off it with a lathe.
Once I had made the P60 fit inside the head (without making it shorter) I could screw on the bezel, but then there was no room for a lens. So I shortened it.
I might experiment more once I get another one. See if I can keep the reflector more stock. Only make it thinner in the head, but not shorter.
This mod might be possible to do with some file work to the reflector (on the side, not on the front). Drilling a bit deeper than I did. And opening up the front of the flashlight with a dremel or something.

What a terrific mod. I love the small form lights that fit AA batteries or 14500. Very creative. Hows the blisters after all the polishing?

Very creative!

Looks great. After you polished the shit out of it, it's now one of a kind.

Don't care what people say about P60 lights. I love/addicted/hoard them.

Great mod, it sure look sexy amongst them :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the nice feedback guys!

No blisters. I let my dremel do most of the work.
Sat out in the sunshine, music on the ears, googles on my face, and the sound of the dremel in the background. To avoid getting bored/tired with the job I divided the polishing work between three days. I did get a a decent amount of polishing compound in my face though.
I could have been easily done in one-two stints, but I did it in the more “chillaxed way”

Ah, so that is where all the nice weather has gone: way north from here. It's been cold and windy for weeks in a row here.

I have no idea what has gone right with the weather lately.

I live outside one of the “rainy” places in Norway. Bergen city. Its know for lots of rain and lots of clouds.
Well, not lately! And not in the near future either!

Seing a weather forecast like that is extremly rare on this time of the year.
Its extremely rare here in general!

I spent two summer months outside Bergen in 1960. Was nine years old and do not recall all that bad weather you tell us about.

Wow, RaceR, that´s very nice. I really love to see mods of cheap lights!
I bet that body feels quite smooth, right?

Now you just need to get your dremel again and engrave “RaceR” to the middle part

Bergen is known to be the rain-city of Norway. Ask any Norwegian which city have most rain. They will probably all say Bergen.

Even Wikipedia agree:

Tripadvisor:

As I mentioned it as a bit better outside Bergen. As always, there will naturally be several days, weeks, or sometime months with decent/nice weather too.

Smooth as a baby butt!
I considered engraving my initials or something. But my handwriting sucks, so Ill just keep it clean looking. Dont want to ruin it.

I wouldn´t ruin it :stuck_out_tongue:

Go check dafont.com, look for a nice font, print it in correct size and use carbon paper to get the font to the lamp and egrave that.
I´ve used that technique to get a name on a big brush/comb for my ex gf. Worked very well.

Thanks for the tip!
Ill look into it!

The polishing makes it!

You saw where my questions was going . . would love to see if this could be almost as simple as a match mini. Especially if the host can take the mods instead of the drop-in.
