mimd to shed some light about what is happening to nitecore that turn you off?
blackshadow is a good light. not always that nitecore sits higher than it.

nitecore is actively bitching at some trusted blf dealers for other people posting prices on deals offered to the forum. Price fixing basically. I’ve decided to fix the price at nothing - I will pay nothing for any nitecore products, simple as that really.

This is not price fixing. The authorized dealer is allowed to sell at whatever price they want, they just can’t advertise it, it has to be via a promotion code or something I think.

As far as I can see, Nitecore is being tared and feathered for something that isn’t uncommon among some of the bigger brands and their dealers. I know when I wanted to check the pricing on a Zebra S6330, I had to PM the seller for the price.

Any why not? No respect for that sort of business practice.

This is my guess. The seller agrees to these terms and in return they either get listed as an authorized dealer or maybe get special pricing. If you’re a grey marker dealer or don’t get your supply from the manufacturer, you can advertise at whatever price you want probably.

Whether you like it or not, it’s rather common. Ever wonder why in newspapers it says advertised price too low to list?

I’m English, we dont get that crap. simply there is a wholesale price not mentioned and a retail price determined by the distributer.

Don’t you have authorized dealers for watches in England? This is actually something that’s very common for watches. The authorized dealer has to buy a certain amount of watches from the manufacturer and can’t sell or advertise below a certain price, in return the manufacturer provides a warranty for watches sold by the seller. At least that’s how I think it works.

That’s usually also where grey market watches come from, the authorized dealer can’t sell his allocated number of watches and sells them cheap to an unauthorized dealer who then sells the watches without warranty or with his/her own in store warranty.

possibly, I’m engineer so a watch has not been a thought for a long time - its just something to get snagged on machinery and cause a horrific accident.

To answer your question though, no price fixing is not tolerated, charge too much, people go elsewhere, just look at fuel for instance

To be fair, Nitecore were responding to complaints from other dealers about the low prices.

That’s the saddest thing I’ve heard all day. As an engineer you of all people should appreciate a mechanical watch.

Actually, I was referring to the whole jetbeam/sysmax/nitecore debacle more than the price fixing thing. Both instances suck really. The whole thing kinda stinks of rotten greedy ownership all around. Unfortunate.

To be completely honest… I probably will still buy a few of their products, when they fill a unique niche no other competitor matches. BUT if there is a reasonable alternative, I will go with that. Or pass altogether.

Take the EA4… the modes always kept me from buying. Then I read about all this corp BS. Now I’m inclined to forgo the EA4, and EA8, for maybe a TK41 instead? still not sure…. but you see the influence on my decision making.

There are so many options for AA these days that we really need a bit more info about your intended use, runtime requirements, beam preferences, output, number of cells, etc.

Lights like the TK41 and EA8/4 are a completely different class to the Zebralight SC52 or Nitecore Ti but all are AA lights.

But just because I didn't see them mentioned yet, you could also consider

Dereelight Javelin

Balder SE-1&2

Shadow Mini TC6

As to the Nitecore pricing debate - that's a bit tricky.

I kind of agree that retailers should be able to list whatever prices they want openly, but from what I've read in previous threads it seems that manufacturers are concerned that many of their distributors will stop carrying the product if they see competitors selling at prices they can't afford to match. Thus, potentially less overall sales.

Unfortunately, it makes it difficult for you and I as end-users to sniff out the best deals. At least we have these kinds of sites to provide us with little nuggest of info.

good suggestions

I suggest thrunite Neutron 1A,2A and Archer 1A,2A are good for you.

I’ve been very tempted. It’d be nice to have a high-CRI light around for tasks where color subtleties are important. However, I already have enough EDC-style lights that I’m not really sure what I’d do with another one. I’ll probably get an L10 eventually, but for now I’m waiting.

Dead link

I didn’t say I didn’t appreciate a good clock mechanism, my great uncle used to make clocks, but a watch is just something to aid amputation at the wrist at work so I got out of the habit of wearing one long ago.

Yeah I stopped wearing a watch years ago. Cant see me going back now.
