Nitecore EA8 Caveman - Video of my Initial Thoughts upon receipt - NOW With BEAM SHOTS

Is it not 900 lumens on turbo?

It is one big bunch of AA batteries. 8)

The switch does take a little practice. It is hard to read the voltage count when I load mine, is the blue LED dim or bright?

The UI can be as complicated or simple as you want it to be. If you just click the button all the way down once…you get trubo.Click it again, off.You only have to half press it to acess the lower modes.Once you spend some time with it the UI gets very easy to use.I would give it a bit of time Justin, I think you’ll find it will grow on you!

The UI is the same as my EA4. I use highest mode on that light 99% of the time. That’s easy. One full click gets me there. One more full click turns it off. Even an old dog like me can learn that new trick.

cool

what are you going to mod it to heheheheeh

The blue indicator on my EA8 is brighter than that of my EA4.

Thanks for the response. I had just the opposite with the two EA4 light I handled. My EA8 is quite dim although it suits me, I am not to fond of blinking lights

Must be production diff., I thought it was intentional though…guess not.By the way, I like flashing lights…and shiny things too!

I really like the UI of the EA4 and EA8 is similar if not identical.
With one click you can have access to Turbo or Low. Everything else is details and never has to be accessed. I would like this UI on more lights.

Justin, you aren't alone. When I build a light, I'll put in any or as many modes that the user wants. I think 75% ++ request a high / low mode or just an On & Off. I like a High Low. As much as I like my TN31 I think about selling it off because it is just too much to mess with. I am constantly fumbling with the blamed thing. I usually end up grabbing something I built... or one of my old Browning lights that are pure on & off. OR... one of my favorite Old-Lumens Mods!! !!!! ... Some of us just want LIGHT! Dan.

I am after the most lumens, like most of us, and that is probably the first thing I look at when buying. But I have found once in a blue moon I need that low setting, to read or lurk around the house at night. So its nice to have a couple of output modes in one light. But those lights with 6-7- or 8 modes is too much. And sometimes that new, cool looking one you want has extra junk.

i’m sorry to hear its all throw, i also don’t find such lights practical

good videos, EA 8 is a great flashlight, i would like to buy one, just do not have the budget.

As someone recently suggested to me, put a MTG-2 in it. that should give it a bit off spill. Or you could just give it to me, please  . I was so confused for two weeks on using the modes on the EA4 until it clicked, I was just stupid, yeah again and quite like it now. You’ve talked me out off it though so you have saved me some money for once. About time. Thanks for the video. If you mod this thing, I’m looking forward to the work off art. Cheers.

Nope, not going to mod it. I'm just going to see if anyone wants it for the price I got it for.

The head and even the bezel will not budge. I imagine I would have to heat it, to break up the loctite and I just don't even want to mess with the light. It's already 2-3 times more than I would normally pay for a host, so I don't want to put more money into it and also run the risk of totally ruining it.

Nice video. I, too, hate that sort of interface, but several modes are good. Anyone who has worked security and had to keep a beam on something/someone/some situation until the cops get there (which can take a while) understands the need for a non-turbo/high mode. Can’t run a bright light at full blast for that long. But no, they aren’t used very often. But it’s funny how everyone I’ve sold to demands SOS and strobe. I guess the feeling of being prepared is that strong.

Would Nitecore’s NFD60 diffuser be any good with this to spread the beam, perhaps?

There’s a photo of the beam pattern after fitting the NFD60 here:

I posted outdoor beamshots for Nitecore EA8 for those that are interested:
Left building are aproximate 140 meters. Center building are aproximate 300 meters and right building (the place where the video goes a bit blur ) is aproximate 200 meters away.
I tryed to get best video fidelity but the camcoder will never pick 100% the brightness intensity and colors that can be seen with naked eyes.

I really like the Ea8 so far, the beam is pretty tight for the size of the head, I’m impressed

Picked mine yesterday from post office, must admit its the most impressive of the AA lights(Im NiMh kind of person) and I love it!
I love its modes and the way you switch between them, my tech-geek part like the dual swtich system alot :D!

Its even better than D40A :D! Why? Because it has big head and throws like a mothaphukka!!!
Did I say that I have neutral white version? Well, yes, I have and its tint is great, I think its even more neutral than the one on D40A and definitely not warm like the one in SD10 warm white version that I have!

I will make sure to do my own review focusing on user experience and hopefully some decent outdoor beamshots ranging from 100 to 400 meters, because thats how far I was able to see it throwing while in the city during night time when theres lots of light pollution around ;)!

Long story short - if you can get this light for, lets say, 65$(PM me if you want to know from which reputable seller you could try to get this light in neutral white tint), then go for it, theres nothing that can beat it for the price and performance with AA’s!!!
