Review: Buck 480 Fixed Blade Drop Point Knife

I don’t look down at 8Cr13Mov - it’s a lot like 440C. They are both steels with lots of potential but only if you temper it properly.

I just don’t know if the temper is right. Some of the Chinese knives I have seen are good and some not; even the same models from the same manufacturer. It’s like buying a Chrysler in the 80’s.

So far as sharpening with a Sharpmaker; if the profile is done right, you can get it sharp. The Tenacious (I have 4), Persistence, Resilience (I have 2), et al., use 8Cr13Mov and mine have all been on a Sharpmaker.

If it works out well, it’s a good blade and I say use it.

I’ve just ordered a Cara Cara 2, for no particular reason other than I was curious about it. It seems almost identical to my Endura 4 other than the blade steel.

I think I can assume that any steel done by Sanrenmu for Spyderco will be heat treated correctly.

C’mon Johnny, don’t do this to me…

Sorry, man… For $8 how can you possibly not?? LOL

Yea, that’s what I’m saying, and I just placed an order with FT last night.

By the way, I love Buck knives. I have a BuckLite that I bought at the BX when I was in the Air Force some 30 years ago. It’s been to hell and back and still as good as the day it was new.

Found one on Ali for $6.45, so bought one to get a feel of.

I held off for a few hours but just ordered. That’s it, just one knife. There’s nothing you and your shiny trinket, arm shaving cronies can do to make me buy another.

I’m done, finished, hecho, hotovo, fait!

It arrived. It is a nice knife for an insignificant amount of money.

If I ever want a knife for a gift this would do nicely.

Thanks for the review JM I ordered 2 of them and the other Buck knife.

Thanks for review, JM. I got two today, very good quality and they are really nicely sharpened.

I really like the look and design.

thanks Johnny . ordered 2 .....

in other sites they sell with a different sheath :)

Thanks. I’ve been eyeing that one as I work my way through Fasttech’s knife inventory. I have the “Buck 009” I just got and a Strider copy on the way.

If it passed your inspection then it must be a really good knife !lol

I have got 2 of these so far and ordered 2 more, they are awesome!!

I wish we could buy that leather sheath, that’s nice!!

I am very new to knife, they are my second knifes.
None of people I have asked around me can guess the price to be so low even I told them upfront they are very very cheap.
And after I told them the low price, they ask me which local shop I got them. I told them they were from HongKong by air.
Then everyone is guessing what is the cost to fabricate these knives?
I suspect they are rejected batches due to minor cosmetic defects, and FASTTECH somehow got hold on a big batch and want to clear them fast.
I gave one to my mum and she used it to cut chicken yesterday, sharper than her other knifes, maybe it is still new.

yah .they got tons of these stuff in china. its the worlds manufacturing base now! il order a few more as gifts! I suspect there's a limited quantity and its going to run out of stock soon...
