Any cheap and good zoom to focus Cree headlights?

I bought one of the ebay 5w Focus Cree LED Head Lamp Torch Light Zoom Zoomable (#280677851392)

Unfortunately, this turned out NOT to be a Cree and the power is more like 0.5W than 5.0W :-( The overall construction is not too shabby for a cheap light but I was expecting at least 3W of light. I measured the current draw and it is 0.140A. The plastic lens has wrong geometry and lot of light is cut off giving staurn rings. When fully focused, the die does not look like a Cree. It is not serviceable. I feel like I wasted my money.

I have 1AA Zoom To Flood (Sipic??) equivalent which has been absolutely great and wanted something like that in a headlamp So took a gamble on this one but lost.

This one is great , no so cheap though.

Have you seen this headlamp? is a flood to throw and the strap can fit any AA flashlight. Includes a nylon bag for carrying and is accepts AA/14500 and has modes

I read the reviews and apparently sux big time on AA.

@sontakke: But, you need a headlamp which accepts 1xAA or you acept a headlamp with 3xAAA?

I have ordered 2 of these from DX (where they cost more), and both friends who have recieved the headlamp absolutely love it. it destroys all of my other friends headlamps while on camping trips. Brightness is awesome, in flood and throw mode. Plus there is dimming on it so you can choose any brightness you like. I want one for myself. It throws like a much bigger flashlight. If you can handle a battery pack on the back, it is very much worth the money.

DX version is this? http://www.dealextreme.com/p/flood-to-throw-cree-q3-wc-convex-lens-led-headlamp-with-brightness-control-3-aaa-44500?r=43033281

Because I see a more expensive one but with batteries and charger included

I bought one a year ago for my brother from DX and one recently from KD for a friend of him. He use it in the regular fishing trips with a bunch of friends...put to shame all bigger ones and plus is very elegant instead those cutted heads .

Si

Gracias, arenat (thank you, arenat)

I wish I had asked this question before wasting my money on the other light. It bothers me to get a fake light even if it is cheap. Can I find a proper review of the recommended KD light somewhere? I want to know the current draw and the flood beam pattern.

Agree! You gotta shell out quite a few dollars, but it is soo worth it. Works like a gem

Are you sure it is not faulty? I have a very similar one purchased from Ledshoppe. It is very bright. I use it for fishing trips, walks and keep it in the car between times for general use. I’ve had it for over a year now and it’s going strong.

I have the three AAA (copy of Led lenser H6) and it is not too bad, I modified it to be XP-G instead, and now is floodier with less throw wich is what I was looking for.

And I have bought recently the AA/14500 with the camouflage strip but in the buyincoins shop in ebay, it was $9.44 (a bit cheaper than in DX but without pouch).

I find the AA/14500 to be easier to improve due to it has quite more material to dissipate the heat than the AAA, and one AA or a 14500 has a bit more of capacity than 3*AAA.

Could you link to that please? and what emitter does it have/ is it possible to upgrade to?

I'd love an XM L headlamp, think the floody beam would be great and being in the UK night temperatures aren't a concern here so cooling wouldn't be too much of a challenge. But I'm still learning...

Hi Watkins, I found it in ebay and the link is no longer available (search for 14500 headlamp and it will show up).

This is the same price, same shop but not in ebay, I prefered via ebay due to it gives a better after sale service with paypal in Spain at least.

It should not be difficult to change the led, but I do not know the star dimension etc till I receive it.

This picture from one DX user, would help you with it ( I am afraid the comments are in russian with I do not uderstand).

Like the one on kd, but with q3, is on sale on dx offer right now. http://offers.dealextreme.com/team.php?id=176

12 hours left for the deal.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead.

I just ordered this an it should be here shortly.

I think the LED is going to be a fake CREE or an very outdated LED, planning to change it.

How do I remove the zooming part to access the LED. I don’t see any threads.

Thanks.
