Outdoor Beamshot!!! Relic's DIY Build 2013: Copper Triple-Triple (July 15 Update)

Whats this youre building, an SRK - Plumbers Edition? That should look great once its completed and polished.

Wow, nifty idea here! Can’t wait to see the final product.

Kinda looks like a slightly smaller copper BTU Shocker!

I didn’t think of that, it does look a bit like the Shocker.

Happy Canada Day!
I have added some more updates from the weekend. Some very good progress I’d say. Hopefully I will get this done soon because I’ll have no time next weekend and then this contest wraps up. :open_mouth:

Very clever solutions to some tricky problems. How many watts will this hand warmer be?

Damn amazing, especially without CNC

Thanks everyone!

I’m planning for 2.8A/emitter, so yes, probably quite the hand warmer

I have no idea what you are talking aboot.

First post updated. I got the emitters mounted now. YAY! getting closer.

Nice fingerprint…

Glad you like it.
That’s just the one you can see. They will not be there long. Dish soap and warm water, followed by a good rinse and some compressed air. Good as new.

When you finish this light it will make all other lights look outdated. Love the triple emitter set up. Whens the lens due in?
On a side note some Aussie members may remember this. I think it was Street Machine mag that had a cartoon in it called Plankenum (not sure on the spelling) and his extractors on his ute from memory were made from plumbing fittings.

You are doing some awesome work on this build!

(btw, the emitters are 75 CRI typical, unless you know something I don’t know)

I was hoping to get the lenses this week, early. Coming from flashlightlens.com ordered early last week. Tracking isn’t showing anything yet, which is very strange. My IS packages usually take 6-7 days, tops. Not looking good…
Thanks for the clarification, R86. I was sure I read somewhere they were 80CRI.

Darren, Can't wait to see the finished product :)

Very creative ways to solve design problems. When it's done I would love to know/see what tools were necessary to accomplish all of this. For example, what did you use to cut the half inch copper pipe lengthwise?

Dremel with a cutoff wheel, actually many cutoff wheels

So yesterday I got the emitters mounted in the head. Today I quickly wired them. I just had to see how the beam was going to look with three of the warmer tint T5 5C1 emitters. It’s a beauty. With no lens or bezel I get about 1800 steady lumens at 6A (2A/emitter). I will settle on 2.8A/emitter once the driver is build. I hope to get 1800-1900 lumens OTF once the bezel and lens are in place. My XM-L2 U2 1C SRK is going to be taking a back seat once this thing is built. Tint wins over lumens.

Did you do it freehand or did you have/make some kind of jig or guide to provide for a nice straight cut?
