LightMalls UltraFire 15T6 16000-Lumen 15xCree XM-L

I had mod a J18 with a new 7x board from Kaidomain, 3 MNKE 26650 ($15 each). It is definitely brighter than a stock 9xT6 ak47. Since the ak47 yields probably near 3,400lm, I’d say 5,500lm is about right for the mod’d J18.

I bought 10 of 9xT6 to distribute among people I know. I did mod one of them with a 9x board from Kai. Ran tested it with a 7.5amp 12v Power supply and with the MNKE 26650. It runs very hot quickly, but yield brightness just a tad brighter, if any, to the mod J18. So considering its larger size, power drain, cost, yielded perceived brightness, the J18 is the more worthwhile flashlight to modify.

Also, 2 of 10 ak47 did not work. I traced it to the center LED of the 9x set, on both. That’s a bit of strange coincidence, I thought. And the interesting part was that in this 9xT6, the LED star was labeled “XML U2” ! On the J18 7xT6, they were labeled just “XML”. So if the U2 is marketed as 17% brighter than T6, your eyes can barely tell.

Anyway, the stock 12x or stock 15x on just the same 3 batts 26650 would just drain it faster but shouldn’t noticeably brighter than a modified (and smaller to carry) J18.

We spent a weekend at the beach in FL, the J18 is so impressive as did the ak47. They’d sweep the low tide beach from easily 100yrds away, revealed fishermen in the dark. That was illegal for them to run net on shallow water so they did it at night. While impressed with the flashlights, They requested me not to attract cops attention to the area. LOL

You’d be happy with any of these lights, I believe. I just pointed out trade-offs of efficiency, price, size and resulted light perception.

BarrelMount - real good info there... With TF 26650's, I measured 5,000 lumens at 30 secs, and that is plenty enough, and yes, it heats up pretty quick.

photon1K - it's the only 7 emitter driver IOS sells: http://intl-outdoor.com/boost-7led-3-modes-23-cells-input-circuit-board-p-545.html

We think it's the same exact one KD sells, about the same price. Mode switching is slow and you weill get a buzz/humm on med and lo modes.

Thanks for the info Tom!

The later versions of the AK-47 is only about 32 watts with the low power driver they ship it with now. The IOS driver installed in the J18 should be about 52-55 watts, so that’s a big power boost and makes a big difference in output.

it died on me after i used it for about 15 mins… i think the driver is fried :frowning:

1. Did you use the heat transfer gum paste between the board?
2. I think it has an auto shutdown feature when it gets too hot. If that was active, it would be impossible to fry if use within power supply spec.
3. High batts drain. Charge your batts again. It could be protection circuit inside a batt shutdown.

Fwiw.

Wow, crap! Maybe those KK's were too much. Let me know if you want me to take a look at it because I got a spare driver, or I could even swap in the original driver to get it working. Hhhmmm... I think other guys were having issues with these IOS and KD drivers - can't recall details...

The gum paste? Think I used that thermal pad thing it came with between the boards...

Yes, thermal pad…. I couldn’t think of the name… :8)

This iPad of mine keeps replacing words… Useful at times… But irritating

15 mins on high or med or low?

Wow! Thats pretty awesome! Hope to see a review about it!

Price has dropped to $97.00 at Lightmalls and $98.00 at Manafont. Guess these haven’t been selling to well.

Zeke, what happened? Did all the lights work ok?

thats also prolly because it can be had for about $85 shipped here

18sixfifty bought his here

It may be a business strategy to sell cheaper flashlights that require more batteries, and make money on battery volume….

Anyone got this light?

I get 3A tailcap with 4 battery, not impressive.
Then i got an extra extension tube and change the driver.

Result: 5x Sanyo 2600mah get 7A tailcap current! Impressive amount of light!
Waiting for my last Sony 26650 50A battery and will see if the light handle 5 of them!

Try to get beamshot to you guys but i dont figure out to do it.

you can get to the driver? :open_mouth: oh cool… and yes please post the the mod to this light.
I have one too it’s bright but could be better…hmm i didn’t know you can add another battery to it and still work
BTW… which driver are you planning to swap it with?

The Reading I posted was With the driver installed and 5x battery.
It is a driver for SST 50. I also use this driver to my 12X t6 lights. Have try to install 4 of the KD 9A driver but all this driver died or dont work.
The Board is big so you has to remove the treads to get it installed.
It is the batterytube who fastend the driver. Use it with thermal paste and not use any spring. The driver is designed for up to 18volt input. The tailcap is about 4A with 4x battery and 7A with 5x Sanyo 2600mah.
Here is link to the driver. This guy deliver now tiny driver Board for SST led.

thanks for the link, the driver is 6mm bigger than the original… but I can’t even get my driver out from my light, how did you able to get it out?
