ITP A1 EOS XM-L U2 Mod

Continued from here :

I was challenged to mod a ITP A1 to XM-L , initially I resisted as the difficulty factor was above Normal , but then reconsidered as I thought it might be time to rise to a new level ...

To say it was interesting , is a understatement ...

Lets try some pictures

Here is the XM-L U2 on a 10mm board mounted in the pill ..

It lives ...

Emitter is ever so slightly off center

Low mode

Medium mode

High mode

The beam is soooo smoooth , so floody , by no means a thrower , but it just pumps light , and from such a small package .

Well , dont be-leave the Lumen output , but the light box says :

Low 80L , Med 400L , High 800L but fades to 730 within 10 seconds ..

This is a very small host for a XM-L mod , but on low and medium it just rocks hard , on high its just insane , but sure does help with the bragging rights .
Heat will be a problem on high , and the longer you run it , I would expect continued output sag .

I just hope the owner is happy with his modified ITP .

Wow! That's friggin' amazing! All that light coming from such a small package is just amazing. Did I say it was amazing?

The driver! We want to see the driver! Or maybe if you can tell what driver did you use...??

Yep. That would be the textbook definition for a "pocket rocket".

http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=1845 This driver ...

Nice!

I have one of those and it puts out nowhere near 3,3 amps it's rated for. Just barely two amps from fresh 18650.

The very reason I chose it , as I was trying to limit current ...

Unfortunately , that driver is very unreliable , in the sense it may deliver current , and then maybe not ?

Its very sensitive to the vF on the emitter I think ... Anyhow , works well enough for this mod .

Nicely done!

Amazing!

Old4570 just use it on high for 10 seconds. then yuo will have a 800LM pocket rokect.

400Lm is too high for Med Maybe toy need a driver is more mode Super Low and something in between low and medium?

This was a contract job

WOW .

Very nice mod, Old! The new owner should be quite happy. I agree with HID45 that this driver is overrated, but I can see that for this application it'd work fine. Did you modify it to remove the strobe/sos or are they still present?

Damn it! That's a REAL pocket-rocket. Great job!

That's just too cool for words, excellent job!

Suh-wheat!! 8)

WOW! Where is the "respect" smiley when I need it...

A, here it is:

Its 5 mode , the very anoying strobe and SOS are still there .. I would just love to see this driver as 3 mode ,

But dont complain about it at KD , or it may vanish ... I like this driver as a replacement for many applications [ emitters ] and have at least one in my spare parts box at any given time .

Very nice, I wondered where those 10mm boards would end up :)

Very cool.

I want one. Or two. ;)
