Thrower & Flooder Beamshots (Very Photo Heavy)

It’s like the current Ferrari of budget kick a throwers and it gets completely ignored! I mean instead there’s a shot of a stock Sipik 68 attempting to go 300 meters. It’s like ok what’s the point of that? I guess I don’t get this glaring omission about the DST is all.

BTW I think your beamshots are the best out there and in fact I don’t even pay attention to all other beamshots because I don’t trust their accuracy. They really don’t tell me jack IOW even though others get all excited.

Your’s however IMO are undoubtedly without question the way it should be done.

Nice…just nice. Thanks you rdrfronty and manxbuggy1.

Thanks for your time and effort a really good setup.
k40 and ff4 look like winners to me.

Trev

We enjoy doing these. We also wanted to kind of showcase Tom E and Vinh’s incredible mods. We were disappointed that the battery on the Yezl Hid died right as we started the shoot. We charge batteries for 2 days and forget one of the heavy hitters. Go figure. Well it is charged and ready to go now. I will try to add it to the mix next Saturday night.

Awesome Job!! Thank you for sharing all that with us.

Nice beem shots  it goes to show how much variations there are in the various Skyray lights out there, as my particular Skyray kung is noticibly brighter and more powerful than both my kings and my brothers king, and even comes close to his TK75 for flood brightness.

Thanks for sharing your hard work .

Cool

The SK68 were a request by a fellow member. Brother owned a couple, so it was easy enough for us to include them. But they really didn’t stand a chance against the big guns in this shoot out.
And thanks. It’s a fair amount of work doing a big set of light like this. But it is also pretty fun.

Thanks.

From the time you left home to the time you got back home, how long was it? Your photography as usual is fantastic that leaves little argument. Your enthusiasm goes without peer. Thanks for the effort.
I dont know about others but would you mind doing a brief summary on picking lights to setting up, who stands where etc. Na, you’ve already done to much. Cheers guys, love your work.

I’d say it took us roughly 3hrs from arrival to the park until leaving the park. This time we had the light stand in the center of this forest channel and brother to the left and me to the right. Both of us about a meter or so behind the lights. We used all my photos this time, but brother took a full set with his camera just in case failure on my end. After all I just got this DSLR a week ago and have never owned one before. The stand itself is a sturdy ladder that has a custom mount connected to the top that holds the lights securely and allows easy tilting for adjusting the beam.
We picked the lights with the basic requirement of over 50k in throw and/or over 2000 lumens. We include a hand full of other lights due to requests by other members and because we were EDCing a couple others - TX25C for me and SC600 for brother.
The photo labeling, uploading, & posting is what takes the most time. Between the both of us we took about 250 shots. 1/2 of them were brothers back ups and 1/2 of mine were simply because we usually take two shots of every light at every position. We’ve found due to timers, bugs, batts, and us big clumsy ox’s, its always best to take the two shots. One is often screwy.
But we don’t mind. Again this is all fun for us. It’s well worth the work. Plus it just us a real excuse to go play with our lights.

Thanks for ur hard work! Nice pics.

Wow! Thanks for all the effort to do this.

I would say out of the lot, the BTU Shocker with the IOS driver and the FF4 were the best overall. The single emitter, dedomed, super throwers are awesome, but they light up such a small area. I know at this level, practicality is an afterthought, but I think this is a good example of why a TK70/BTU Shocker/TK75/FF4 is a more useful searchlight than a TN31/K40/SR90/BK-FA01 etc.

This makes me wish the ANSI FL1 standard had some way of quantifying the size of the hot spot at a given distance, as well as the lux, so you can understand the properties of the flashlight more completely.

Agreed! It is a beast for sure!

Great Job! I sure love the Firefoxes FF4 at 60watt! I think I got to build another HID

Absolutely awesome night time beamshot comparison rdrfronty. This is truly one of the best I have scene and I love that you did the zoomed secondary shots which really show how deep this lights penetrate the darkness which is often not shown very well. Love it!

This is the way to go with beamshots. Thank you for the great comparison and your time!

+1 on almost ALL the above comments.

Dreams I’d like to see:

- 4 K40s strapped together Terminator style like those L2s

- DST DD-XML2 runing the amps of the K40 or TN31

- A TexasPyro or PilotPPK driver that improves on the best performing driver in the test

PS - That XPG2 Ultrafire C8 is a champ!

Awesome Work, thanks

I wonder if you may include new trustfires in comparison, that J12 still a beastlight

Thanks again

Great beamshots, thanks! Very useful. Now I need to get off my butt and get an FF4.

Bang for Your buck, that BTU IOS driver is the best performer here in my opinion.

Edit: nevermind, just noticed it’s modded
