Goread recoil/reflect lightsaber (CK-36 clone)

Just some pics for now as I don’t have any 18650s yet to make beamshots. ;_;

Light came really quickly via CN post, arrived in seven days!

For ~5 GBP shipped I was really not expecting much. It has a glass lens (with a tiny scratch!) sealed by silicone ring spacer, two o-rings on body tube, anodized threads, even a lanyard. It was a little dirty inside the reflector part; spotless now after some window cleaner and a spray with compressed air.

Boot isn’t the best, not as thick as on my Convoy S5, and too much space between boot and switch makes it feel squishy:

I love this reflector, really fascinating.

You can see the LED gazing at itself like Narcissus (yay, manual focus!):

One issue, there is a small gap between the white spacer and lens, so I doubt it is waterproof. There is a larger spring that pushes against the reflector assembly but it is not enough to close the gap.

Emitter close-up (XR-E?):

Move the lens gasket thing to the other side, between the lens & bezel. Mine had the gasket between the lens & reflector when I got it.

Also I replaced that stupid outer spring with a piece of 5/8" copper pipe. Fits over the driver housing and into the counterbore in the battery tube like it was made for it. Length of .400" is just right to clamp it all together tight without leaving any gaps on the outside.

I got two; one is a test mule and getting all cut up into a million pieces (see sig) & fitted with a dedomed XPG2 at 3 amps, the other is staying untouched for comparison purposes. Setting the focus on these things after you go changing things is a real pain!

Thanks, comfychair. I will try that. Can you cut copper pipe with a hacksaw? I just realised the emitter dome needed a clean as well.

Maybe surprisingly, a saw usually gives better results than a tubing cutter (the kind with the wheel). Saw cuts need less cleanup, tubing cutters crimp the tube and also work hardens the copper, they are quick though. Hacksaw is bad about hanging up once you break through the wall, keep rotating the tube and cutting where it's not broken through yet. And make a shallow cut all the way around to serve as a guide before you really get down to work, it's easy to drift off line and make a mess. xD

edit: oops, this is 3/4" pipe, though due to the insane naming conventions nothing about it is related to that 3/4" number. Measures roughly 22.2mm OD / 20.2mm ID.

Ahh, okay. I don’t have a hacksaw yet. Are the tubing cutters the things plumbers use?

Among other things.Wink Yes, they are used for plumbers and they can work well. They will cut a straight line, where you hardly ever do with a hacksaw. If you only use a little pressure on the tubing cuter, then it does not have to deform the tubing much. Just snug, and turn 3 times, snug and turn 3 times, etc. till it cuts through. Then an exacto blade can be used to trim out the ID of the piece.

Great pictures! It really looks identical to my CK36 though. Good deal for 5 bucks!

Thanks! I see yours has the same LED, or is yours XP-E?. How is the boot on yours? I am already thinking about modding mine and I haven’t properly tested it other than making sure it works.
