romisen rc-29 est mort!

a hard drop onto linoleum at work has killed my rc-29. my question is, what exactly breaks in this scenario?

led, emitter, battery connection? what do i replace? upgrade?

i have already gone to an s-mini in its place which maybe just about perfect for my work (and last night laughed off almost exactly the same fall, thanks bryan, its a winner), but i would like to make the romisen whole again, its a neat little light and my only flood-to-throw.

is modding ahead? oh crap.

R.I.P.

On a serious note you must first identify the cause. I'll go checking the contacts first then i'll be suspicious of the driver. Led emitter being the last on the list but worth checking out wit two alkies AA.

I'd check circuit, swicht and contact.

if you have a dmm . put a battery in there and check it as if you were checking the amp draw on the light. set the dmm to 10amps and one lead to the battery negative and touch the other lead to the threads on the tailcap. it should light up and give you amp reading. if it does then it is probaly the switch. i dropped a light once and found that the spring had no solder holding it on the circuit board. if you don't have a dmm try tightening the ring that holds the switch. i would stasrt there as it is the easiest to do.

I dropped my RC-29 once and the same thing happened. The cause of the failure was the soldering of the PCB to the pill. If you remove the pill I'm willing to bet you will find that your driver is loose. Break out the soldering iron and reflow the two connections to the pill. Add a couple more connections for good measure and you've now created your own nailbender pill. Pop it back into the light and enjoy your RC-29!

This.

The solder joints are the most common failure point, and thankfully, one of the easiest to fix. I've also had solder joints fail on the emitter itself. This is one of the reasons I like to completely disassemble a light and re-solder the main connection points.

this is why i come here. thanks.
