3C, not 2C MT-G2 Maglite Mod - BEAM shots are up in Post #1 and it's done!!!

Nice work!

How did you make 3,7V driver to power over 6V emitter?

Nice work. What do you use around the switch wires? The white stuff?

A pair of unprotected 18650 cells that don’t have tall positive buttons will fit fine in a newer 2C Mag if you remove the anodizing on the inside of the tailcap and slide a low profile spring into the rear of the cap. Hundreds of incan ROPs were made this way. A pair of unprotected ICR 25500 cells is also an option but you still need to ditch the stock tail spring for one that rests in the same tailcap groove but is low profile as well.

Sorry everyone. I ordered a 2C Maglite and I did not bother to check the length of it. I just started the modding and I didn't actually put batteires in it until after most everything was done and the thread was started.

It is a 3C and it could be bored for 26650, but with the newer 10 amp 18650s, I just don't see the need for 26650 batteries.

@RacR86: The white stuff is Arctic Alumina Adhesive.

Glamour shots in Post #1.

Flood to Throw Beam shots tonight.Wink

Nice job OL. Awesome beamshots. Looking forward to more.
I wonder what the rebel reflector would look like with the MT-G2? If it be any tighter or about the same.

Possibly tighter, but also more/wider spill, since it’s a lot deeper reflector.

Beam shots of Flood to Throw are up in Post #1.

It's done, have fun!

But I don’t remember for the life of me…what do you use to strip the anodize? I tried a Sulfuric Acid solution today and it just didn’t get the job done. Eats everything else, just not the black anodizing on a Defiant 3C.

Really nice looking light, that one is, great that it still adjusts for the spot. Like that.

Greased Lightning found in Lowe's or Home Depot, in the household chemical sections. Yellow Gallon Bottle, red label "Greased Lightning Super Strength".

It takes about an hour to two hours for type II and it takes longer for type III ano. I use a plastic container, sit the part in it and fill so the level is a couple inches above the part. If I were to strip a 2D Maglite, it would take a full gallon in a good sized container. I sit the parts on end, never lying flat, (like a body tube) and I turn them end to end about every half hour. When I see the color coat is gone, I take them out, rinse them in another container of water and steel wool them to remove the residue and then put them back in. Sometimes it's hard to judge if the actual base ano layer is gone, as it looks like aluminum, but steel wool will usually tell, as the ano will not shine up, but the bare aluminum usually will, (unless it's a cheap Chinese aluminum and then it won't shine up too well).

Great job! I can see it the way the beam shots illuminate the areas during the night. They’re very bright!

I probably didn’t stick with it, only had it in the acid about an hour…was afraid the threads were gonna get killed. Will the Greased Lightning eat the aluminum at the unprotected threads? Is there a way to mask off those so there’s no issue?

I really like how you get yours chrome looking but the Mag etching still shows, looks factory that way. Ever re-anodize and just leave em clear?

I have never had it eat the bare aluminum or threads. I supose it could after a longer time, but I’ve never seen it.

I have thought about anodizing, but I would want to "do it right" and that costs a lot, plus I have no way to dispose of the used chemicals or "dirty water".

You're welcome Justin!! That's a great looking light and the beam shots are superb. I like that tail cap decoration. Your work just balances out a light!!! Super nice!!

Cool! I have a part inside an Old Lumens Mod!!! Can't beat that! I'm not sure my head will fit through the door now!! The little part was fun to do! Enjoy!

Dan.

I am slightly jealous. I still love your work though TexasLumens.

Well, there is that pond… J) Or toilet… Or nasty neighbor’s pool…

Actually anodizing doesn’t use much in the way of non-disposable chemicals. The acid bath can be neutalized with baking soda, etc. You are already using sodium hydroxide solutions…

(from Wikipedia): Anodizing is one of the more environmentally friendly metal finishing processes. With the exception of organic (aka integral color) anodizing, the by-products do not contain heavy metals, halogens, or volatile organic compounds. The most common anodizing effluents, aluminium hydroxide and aluminium sulfate, are recycled for the manufacturing of alum, baking powder, cosmetics, newsprint and fertilizer or used by industrial wastewater treatment systems.[15]”

Okay, Okay! My wife told me I couldn't start an Anodizing shop in the garageCryCry... She's about 5'3" (I'm 6'3"), and I just say yes maam, or yes honey. I don't sass her, ever...InnocentUndecidedWink

I just don't want to mess with it, is all it amounts to...

Well, with the GREAT work you do MRsDNF, he would have chosen you if you were up here on the top side of the world. I just got lucky!!! With what you turn out I'm always just trying to keep up!! Your work is flawless and I like the thought behind what you do. You and OL are top notch!! Dan.
