One Heck of a Cheap Thrower ? / Mod Host

This looks like one heck of a cheap thrower. Glass Lens, big SMO reflector. True modding potential.

I like the look of this one too but it seems to have a plastic TIR lens and could be v.hard to mod. But I love the look of the body.

For most folks, the 3xAAA kills them both. Too bad though... I like the looks of them.

I really wish they would give up on the 3AAA format and start making some 3AA lights, that would give some serious run time and enough amperage for some decent mods.

The first one is not bad but the there's no contact between the star and the pill so you can have heatsink problem.

The second one is an horrible copy of this and also DX have it (here)

On some of those 3xaaa lights, an 18500 will work though. It looks like it might work with that first light you linked.

The first one has great potential. At that price makes me woder why cant we get such a host 18650 sized allo inclusive without driver and POS emitter for lets say 5usd? Would have bought 5+ instantly if the pill is somehow decent!

The problem with 18500's is that nobody has affordable good ones. The 18500 at dx is crappy, and I suspect some of them are fakes (14500 inside), so you might as well use a 14500 protected with a plastic tube.

I've actually done the 14500 with a tube on an X2000 before. Works fine. You could probably do that with this light too, but the battery life wouldn't be great if you mod it to an emitter and driver with high current requirements.

I dunno. The 3xAAA format isn't bad and having a decent thrower that can be powered by batteries from any convenience store is a big plus, especially on camping trips. I'm finding most people are not familiar with 18650s. I may give this one a try. And they'd be great gifts, no?

I agree. One of my most used lights is a 3AAA which runs for hours (single mode +/-150 Lumen). I like the idea of using that first one as a host. Product page doesn't give any idea as to the emitter or if it has modes. And aren't "Small Sun" lights known for being junk?

Ok, found it on a site called "Everybuying" . Listed as 1 mode, 150 Lumen, digitally regulated 350mAh. A few more pics on that site too.
