USB "charger doctor" (volt+current display)

Are you concerned about security or something else?

Yes, however that price includes one of their Fast-Charge 3-in-1 Cables that enable faster charging of devices, including Apple devices plugged into non Apple USB ports.

I also appreciate them developing a legitimate business selling a well designed/made product versus a cheap and flimsy clone. FWIW, I did buy one of the cheap devices to get the current/voltage readings. Fine for initial testing of chargers and USB ports at home. Once I know their characteristics, I can use the Fast-Charge 3-in-1 Cable to take full advantage of them, at least that is my plan.

Does the cable work, does it enable faster charging?

I can’t say until I receive the cable.

What I read here convinced me to buy the cable: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/david-toledo/the-practical-meter-know-your-power

This is a link for the cable itself: Situs Judi Bola Resmi, taruhan Mix parlay terpercaya - INDOBET365

I hope this helps.

Works very good as a measuring tool that it is. I used it to weed out cables used on the same charger that gave me very long charge times and now I can see why. Same charger different cables gave me from 400mA up to 1,700mA so I sorted out my cables using this Tool and my charger works faster now; I got my measurement tools from DX, can’t be beat for the price.

Good for that task, sorting cables, but not for actually measuring values since its insertion in the circuit changes the current too much.

Claimed a refund from the ebay dealer, it never did arrive. :frowning:

Not really, I have no expectation regards price these days, you just never can tell. Its a useful device, but only to compare A vs B, or to see if a device is working or not.

Really?? on a gadget this cheap? I doubt the Seller would know why somebody in a Chinese sweat shop was lazy

How does a public charger work? We don’t have any public chargers here in the USA that I’m aware of, you must bring your own when you go somewhere……do they charge by the hour to use a public charger or are they totally free to charge-up your device?

Mine took 25 days to arrive. For the money it's pretty nice. It's missing a few surface mount devices compared to the other photos posted in this thread. I tried to pry my case apart but it seems to be glued so I'm not going to wreck it in order to post a clear picture. Here's what mine looks like with the case on..

Did that one come from DX?

I meant that there is always the possibility that something gets transferred over the datalines if you plug your phone in. It was/is called Juice hacking…

No, it came from this ebay seller

The ones I got from DX are the same.

I wonder how many different circuit versions there are?

Look in airports, very common to see a kiosk with a couple dozen types of connectors sprouting out with some brand advertisement. Carry on luggage can be such a fuss many will pack the charger in checked luggage or not bother on shorter trips. 10 min hanging around the kiosk can put maybe 2/3 of a full charge on a lot of phones.

It wouldn’t be hard I expect to fashion something similar to the ATM fronts that steal credit card info to nearby Bluetooth.

Thanks….I actually have never seen them, but then again I’m always in a rush when I go there and never go to the Kiosk’s.

Another version out there now…inline

looks like a candidate for a bit of 18650 clear heatshrink tubing
