N-Light B3 mechanical Clicky mod guide

Ok , what makes this a tricky mod , is we need to remove part of the body that holds the button in place , we do this so that the clicky will extend out from the tailcap and be usable .. Of you dont trim it , you wont be clicking anything .. Dont cut all the way through , gently cut in all around the button and remove the trimmed part gently without disturbing the button .

Once you do this the button can fall out , which is more or less why it should be fitted into the tailcap right away .

About a 1mm trim should do the trick , I use a saw blade on my motor tool [ paper thin rotary one ]

The switch itself is cheap and nasty , and has a tendency to fall apart .

I pushed the one in my B3 out to look at it , and it came out in pieces .. And they never seem to go back together right ..

So lets put the mod in order ..

Pull out all the old guts : Leaving you with a empty tail cap ...

Mod the switch ..

Pull out the contact tabs on the side at least 1.5mm or so [ gently - dont make the switch fall apart ]

Then simply push the clicky into the tailcap .... and screw the tailcap back into the body ..

Now should work well .

Possible Issues ?

Clicky was not trimmed enough , needs to stick out more ... [ Try again ]

If you push it out , its likely to come out in bits , so a 5 pack should see you get there . might wait on pulling out the tabs till you have test fitted the switch , as the tabs once pulled out , will offer enough resistance for the switch to fall apart on removal .

Now I only have two left myself [ dont ask for them ] clicky switches .. [ there my back up switches for the B3 ]

But I have ordered 10 switches from KD [ there cheap enough ] and , should you be desperate enough , and rich enough !!!!

Once I get the switches from KD , and you really cant do it , then you may send the tailcap to me to be fitted with a clicky ....

Now the first one lasted 6 months and gave me no issues what so ever , and the only reason it got replaced was because I was silly enough to try and remove it , and that was my silly fault . Once in the light , it should be fine ..

This 2nd switch , after bedding in , feels better than the first one ... So not a problem !

I really like the B3 with the mechanical clicky , that electronic one was a POS!

I Wonder about the mod someone used where ne put a small magnet on top of the switch and then glued it too ..Sounded like a easy thing to doif you had a small magnet .. if it worked glue it . Something to try .. he said it didn't make it come on in his pocket . i would kind of like a metal switch instead of plastic , maybe tthat's why the magnet idea appeals to me ..You're right Old // the switch as it is sux badly .if all you want is low it turns the light on but changing modes is almost impossible one handed .

Gluing on a magnet to the switch would indeed make it easier to activate the clicky, but it is still the same clicky. I prefer a real clicky compared to the stock one.

Padding the switch , that would make it easier to physically get to , but would not change the way it functions .

And 50% of the problem for me was the way the electronic switch functioned .

I managed to complete the mod a few days ago, but haven't had a chance to post. The clicky on the end is not lined up properly, but it makes the light much more enjoyable to use.

The circuit on my B3 died, and I got a replacement circuit (with a spring attached) from cnqualitygoods. Now, how do I remove the circuit from the tailcap? I tried tugging at the spring, and it does not come out, nor pushing the tiny switch inside helps. I do see a brass retainer (?) ring surrounding the circuit in the tailcap, but have no clue as to how do I pull that out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the retaining ring should have 2 opposing little holes in it ? [ Yes ? ]

Now I use a pair of needle nose pliers that have been ground even smaller [ needle nose ]

Insert into the holes and twist out ...
