Review: Black Shadow Terminator 4*U3/4*18650

At least it’s a simple fix and a non-moving part.

I am sure that is a self explanatory fix but if someone does the fix on that hole, can they post pics to help those of us who haven’t done it?

I used a thick rubber washing machine belt inbetween the jaws of a set of mole grips to unloosen the two top reflectors.Removed the two alen bolts,.Lift up the handle slightly,on mine there wasn,t much room ,noslack on the switch wires.Using a very small flat screwdriver i pushed in some silicone .Tightened the bolts back in and wiped excess off with a damp cloth…

if anyone is wondering the fasttech protected ncrb panasonic 3400 mah fit… barely… threads squeaked a little but they seem to fit and work ok (69mm+)

Bad night for me… :frowning:

I dropped my Terminator (due to beer issues) and chipped and scratched it in 4 different places. :frowning:

I have 4 other torches on order just now, and I was starting to consider selling my Terminator, but not now. No way at all I can sell it with this damage, so it’s defo a keeper.

While I’m pissed to the max at the damage, it’s still working perfectly. An easy 1m drop onto solid concrete step, then a bounce 150mm to the next, then another 150mm bounce onto another slab… but to be fair to the Terminator, it’s working perfectly after the damage.

Lesson there. Don’t mix quality torches and beer. And don’t be careless with the way you ‘store’ it.

Shame it’s now damaged and not sell-able, but at the same time it’ll make me sell the others I have coming and appreciate the standard of what I already own.

Got any pics of the damage? that sucks to hear. I would be so sad to see my terminator take on damage like that. I plan on taking it on some big backcountry trips this summer so we shall see how it fairs.

Strangely it feels works than it looks. All the wee rough edges make it feel really bad, when in the cold light of day (and now sober lol) it’s not that bad. Still can’t/won’t sell it on though.

Oh man! That sucks! I had a similar issue. I had mine open sitting on the ottoman. Mrs D came walking in tripped and spilled coffee into the battery carrier… & possibly the head. After extensive CPR & Defib…. She brought me back around. I poured the coffee out of the battery case, wiped it out. I wiped the head out as well. Didnt seem to have any coffee in it. The light works fine, Only took a day to calm Mrs D in light of the colorful expressions spewn ( by myself ) at the time of the incident.

Grounds for divorce right there for sure!!!

Looks like it actually took the drop extremely well! I’ve bought lights more banged up than that.

Yeah, when I woke up sober and the memory came flooding back, I reached for the BS and had a look… and like you FMcamaroZ28, I was surprised it coped so well.

Unlucky with yours Dale.

The wife that is! lol :open_mouth:

Mine’s the same… just doesn’t understand the whole thing.

But when I touch her silk cushions or jewellery things change! :open_mouth:

Sorry to hear about your drop, Denbuc. I'd be extremely upset but I've never seen a light take a hit like that with such little damage. Impressive, to say the least!

I've had my SC60 fall just 1.5ft from a coffee table onto concrete and had a gouge as bad as one of those on your BST. Considering the SC60 is a feather compared to the tank that the BST is, the ano and alloy of the BST is extremely impressive stuff!!

LOL, I suppose my drunken gaffe has proven fruitful, and now we have proof of the high standard of finish on the BST

There are lots of people out there that are not concerned with looks… they want to use the light and know that it’s soon going to be beaten to a pulp. It is just fine to sell it, warts and all. Just tell them up front it’s a bit scuffed.

Aye, good point texaspyro

I feel the handle on the terminator is too smooth. Just as I prefer deep knurling on a flashlight tube I feel the handle should have something grippy. I’m thinking about possibly adding some strips of grip tape maybe on the sides of the handle.

I think BlackShadow should have somehow marked these with different model numbers to designate what BIN the LED’s are, U2, U3 and T6/3C.

Thanks to JohnnyMac I’ve had the Terminator for a while now.
It’s sits by the front door ready to light up the street whenever I hear strange noises.
Lit up a little old lady walking her dog about 11pm the other night…

Here’s a pic of it on a tripod, the Giottos QU500 and a ball head.
The tripod is a nice heavy metal design.

Anyone using the mounting hole on the BST ? Aside from bolting 4 together !

I just got one of the last of the U3 versions in stock from Illumination Supply here in the USA. Outstanding price for it compared to what was mentioned here as they had it listed as a monthly sale item for May. I got one of the last by phoning as the web site showed it as out of stock. I suspect that the price, $85, was both a May special and a clearance price as the new Terminator T70 version had already been announced by the maker.

Overall a great review of an excellent light IMO. So far the best non name brand (at least in the USA) Chinese light I have seen though I do have a couple of hot rodded SupFire M6s on the way from Richard at Mountain Electronics and a SupFire L1 on the way from China. Interesting to compare all of them on arrival. The more highly modded SupFire M6 is supposed to be good for about 5000 Lumens at initial turn-on, a real hand blow torch for basically the same price as I got the Terminator for. The Terminator certainly has a lot more output than my SRK and Securitying SRK clone three emitter lights.

Personally I wish that more of this type layout of light came with a handle like the Terminator and the SupFire L1 I have coming. To me it makes for a very ergonomic package if done right.

As far as bike mounting is concerned look for a bicycle handlebar camera mounting clamp as with the tripod mounting hole on the bottom of the light it should go right on any camera mount. That camera tripod mounting hole adds to the versatility of this light by quite a bit and the SupFire lights have the same feature per their descriptions.

RMM at Mountain Electronics just finished modifying my Terminator and reports 535 Lumens in low, 2395 in medium and 4600 in high. I suspect I will need to watch the light temperature in both medium and high! To me these are pretty impressive numbers. Now waiting to get it back!
