Which flashlights provide great value for the money?

You should get it in 2-3 weeks and you are going to love it. Did you get the OP or SMO reflector?

How does the ultrafire C8 XML compare to the KD C8 XML? I have the ultrafire C8 and its pretty bright with really good throw. It does have a ringy beam and gets hot within a few min on high.

I don't have an Ultrafire C8 just the KD one so I have no idea, sorry.

Back when I first started visiting BLF , I bought this light mainly because of the reports of an Osram emitter that had a warm tint and the ill-fitting reflector that softened the hotspot to an almost pure flood . Well , the beam profile is great , but the one I received has a cool tint . I have never liked the tint of this light . Yet the form factor and beam have kept this light as my EDC for over a year .

I got the OP version that was listed in the link above because my understanding is that the OP version is more flood and has a smoother beam overall. I can not see things at a great distance so do not need a thrower. :) Thank you all for the great help and advice. :)

Perfect that was the right choice for the right reasons, both of mine are OPs also.

Now I am back to one of my other posts. Order Anxiety. LOL :) Now I wait....time to get out the flashlight and tinker for 3 weeks. :)

I have always found KD to have fast post. Might only be 2 weeks

fantastic....I have a NASCAR race to keep me busy right now, so the next few hours is covered. LOL :)

got one but.... hate the tint ..it's green as green can be seems these are a pure tint lottery ..beam pattern is ok but I really hate the body as well ..dumb clip ,no grip or knurl ,stupid deep clicky thats a pain in the tail to use ...like pushing a childs belly button (an inny) I don't like the Akoray for the same reasons..same dumb body ..it just feels wrong and then add a bad tint ?? It was for sale the day I got it . it hasn't sold yet ..Hard for me to sell things I don't like .

+1 on everything Boaz ... sold mine to a colleague ... he liked it, but he only has inca-Mags to compare... mine also had a horrible "tint"... full story HERE

The tint on mine is pretty good. Won the lottery there, but the emitter is off center on mine, so lose some, too.

Was there ever any consensus on comparing this to the MRV style lights like the Trustfire F15? I like the looks of that body style better but that's secondary if this one actually has nicer quality/tint/etc.

Thanks.

Oops, posted in wrong thread. I meant comparing C8 from KD w/ MRV types.

Any update did you get your KDC8 light yet?

I have heard nothing about my KDC8 light yet and I do not have it. My order has not shown up on the KD site but I have been charged for the light via Paypal. :(

I just got my KD C8 today it came and I had to sign for it. I did a quick comparison with my favorite P60 light as it is the closest thing I have to the KD C8 and overall the KD C8 is brighter than my 3 mode MF XML P60 light.

Nice are happy with it or very happy.:)

A pigs ear - into a silk purse ?

I'll just give you my top picks ,

For AA and AAA - ITP 3 mode .

If you have more money to spend , Nitecore - Jetbeam [ AA ] also the N-light B2 - B3 possibly

For 18650 or P60 host , lots to chose from , but ATM I find the Solarforce L2T to be the bees knees ! Combine it with a low current XM-L drop in for a very useful flashlight that should give excellent service , I have 3 ATM , dont plan on buying more [ Unless Solarforce brings out another color or finish ]

There is simply too much out there , and every light has its place and function ...

Where are you getting SK68's for 8 bucks? Lowest I can find is $9 at Meritline for a Q3, and $10 at Manafont for a Q4 version (black paint) (silver paint).

I agree it's maybe the best "low cost overall value" I've found, despite being bit of an odd light in my opinion, and having some weird design characteristics--the main ones being the drilled and tapped clip screws, instead of a simple slide-on clip. The holes stripped out in 1 of the 2 I have (as I mentioned recently elsewhere). Haven't bothered contacting Manafont, as I'm guessing they wouldn't want to do anything for me, and I don't know there's anything they can do, short of a new light, and it works otherwise--but I did want the clip. Was really unimpressed with the way MF treated the member who did the UF-980L review, when his driver burned out, and they insisted he send the driver back before even offering to send a new DRIVER to him. Really low, and that decision was never explained by MF. And they made a lot of money off that thread thanks to Foy. Considered boycotting MF after that, still not sure what's appropriate. So much for our "pet" reseller.

The irony of cheap lights is, many of us have spent a lot of money, in search of that "great bargain" light! Like my $6 wasted on the Sipik SK58 with an off-brand LED, when $10 for the SK68 would've done me so much better. That's $16 total cost on that lesson! But--the $6 one became my girlfriend's 'best' flashlight (LOL).

Just about all of us could've bought an 'expensive' light for the cumulative cost of our several cheapos (by cheapo I mean about $15 or less). But, I figure this way I have a number of flashlights around, can pass them along to friends, and get to learn and help people know what worked for me, if it helps them.

Some bottom-feeding mixed bags from the past:

I once got a $12 WF-501B with an XP-G drop-in from Kaidomain, but the reflector was too far forward of the LED, so it blocked a lot of light and required modification. I really ended up liking neither the body nor the drop-in, though I was very impressed with the Cree XP-G in and of itself. That's with the girlfriend for now, though I use it at her place more than she does. I think it's a bit much for 'round-the-house use for her, and too big for her purse. (I found with her, size matters. She likes 'em small. Can't blame her, so do I... usually.) Plus, she's very risk-averse, and my stories about what lithium batteries could do didn't help much.

The WF-504B with a single-mode R2 for $14 from DX (still available, same price) was a surprising winner. Body quite closely compatible with Surefire (not as well as Solarforce, and not as quality as Solarforce (looser threads) but still okay. R2 single mode more useful than I thought it would be. Good for working on cars and wherever you need a lot of light in a fairly small spot for more than just a short time, without a huge draw. Pulls exactly 1 amp with 4-volt batteries.

Considering a $14 light is 64% higher cost than a $9, if buying a number of them (as cheap gifts), it can add up. So if you can find SK68's--with Cree LED's????--for $8, yeah, that'd have my vote as best low-end deal. I've found anything lower than that, just ain't worth it, and is actually a waste. Can't think of anything under $9 I actually liked.

I get my SK68's clones from 365Digital's ebay shop. They cost me 4.99(GBP) inc shipping which is equivalent to 8.11(USD).

They handle AA's and 14500's interchangeably no problem and its a Q3 emitter. Personally I've never had a clip screw strip but I've had a couple with loose screws that I've had to tighten on arrival. And the zoom head always needs lubing no matter where you get one from.
