Image Hosting Site with Free Unlimited Storage & Bandwidth (abload.de)

Let me start off by saying that I am extremely happy with the image hosting site that I use, abload.de. :)

This is a short overview of http://www.abload.de/.

Pros: It's easy to share your pictures because abload.de has convenient forum codes and direct links. abload.de offers unlimited free storage and unlimited free bandwidth. Your images can be as wide and as tall as you want, but abload.de will not upload images that are 10MB or larger.

Cons: The site is in German. However, using Google Chrome and Google Translate eliminate most of the language barrier. Also, there are ads on abload.de

Sources:

Although abload.de offers free unlimited storage & bandwidth, I like to shrink images for posting on the web so that they will load more quickly.

Do you have a comment or question? I'd love to hear it.

EDIT: If you would like to post a picture in this thread, please keep it under 200 kilobytes so that BLF will load quickly. Thanks!

I have never been that happy with photobucket.

thanks for the tip.

I just tested a big animated GIF. Abload displays it correctly. Then i downloaded it back to HDD. Download file is different from the upload file! Clearly, the Abload.de-upload/download changed the file. file size differs a bit, CRC32 too.

I tried several I didn’t like before just creating my own

Before I started using abload.de, I tried to join minus.com. But you need a smart phone (or other mobile device) to create a minus.com account, and "all I have" is a desktop and a laptop.

I usually use tinypic but when you upload a 1080p image they resize it to 1440xSomething and it looks like garbage :frowning:

I tried out your site, works good! I uploaded 3.6mb PNG, and when I downloaded it they turned it into 3.7mb! lol.

Looks good. Thanks!

toysareforboys, I know you're not doing this on purpose, but your 3.7MB PNG is really slowing down this thread. :_( Could you please remove it?

EDIT: Thank you!

Financial trouble? They're asking for voluntary payments.

Was loading fast for me?! What internet speeds you got?

-Jamie M.

It was loading slow for me too, and I have something like 25 Mbps service from Comcast. The slowdown was probably with the image host and not with all our ISPs. It came up much faster this morning versus last night, so, yeah, just a heads up that your free photo hosting service could have bandwidth issues.

I did a trace route and abload.de is 22 hops from me and the ping showed an average latency of 200 milliseconds. Just remember that anyone in the USA has to connect across the world to see your images. More hops + physical distance = more chance of it being slow.

When you loaded it this morning, might it have been retrieved from cache?

Ahhh, I have 300 Mbps service, so might have loaded a little quicker for me.

-Jamie M.

You mean cached by my browser/computer or cached at the ISP level by something used by ISPs like an Akamai box? I loaded it last night on my laptop and this morning on my desktop, though both share the same Internet connection. But my desktop had never loaded that image so it came up fast uncached by my machine, though it could have certainly been cached by my ISP at that point. Comcast is tech savvy with that sort of stuff.

All I’m saying is to take a small, overseas photo hosting site of unknown bandwidth with a grain of salt.

25,000,000 bits per second / 8 bits per byte / 3,700,000 bytes (approx) = .8 seconds if my long-week, tired, Friday math is right.

I had browser cache in mind.

I wanted to pop in here since others will hit this thread looking for a good picture hosting site, and say that you can’t go wrong with:

I don’t know of specific limitations or niche uses other than for forum posts, but it is the antithesis of all things bloated, overly-javascripty, and ‘social media’. Perfect for me. No registration. You basically get a private link for that session which links to the administration for that group of pics (basic controls like deletion and resolution). If you lose it, that’s your fault. Excellent for showing an Ebay seller how his poor packaging led to damage of the item, for instance. Enjoy.

Any new updates on this subject?
Thought to use postimage but they delete images after 6 months if there are no views…

I’ve been using this more recently, works super nice!!

http://imgup.io/

The main reasons I like it:

1. It doesn’t resize or re-compress your photos (if you don’t want it to)
2. Allows you to link directly to the .jpg without it showing ads or a “webpage”, just feeds you the image directly, i.e. http://imgup.io/images/2015/12/29/db39c649c0c40fbfec482904ed4952c2.jpg

Let me know how it works for you.

-Jamie M.

I will try them, I hope they do not delete images after 6 months or so…
