You guys haven't been following the developments. So many measurements and real world tests (and its really a lot) have taken place not only here but elsewhere.... This puppy in this regard is even better than many of the high-end branded lights.
+2; lots of good info on this light accross a number of boards. It's well worth actually reading through all the helpful info already provided before jumping to conclusions.. There is a reason this light has been so popular.
This use some kind of drop-in. The difference between this and P60 drop-ins it that this one is screwed to the head so heat transfer is better. P60 drop-ins are floating inside the host without good contact.
Decided to simulate temperate conditions. The thaicpf tests were done in Thailand.
Temp was around 16 deg C, light breeze of about 5kph. That should be indicative of conditions of what some of you guys experience outdoors, even in dead night of summer.
Time 1 minute, 8 minutes, 19 minutes. 23:13hrs, 23:20, 23:31 as indicated on image EXIF data.
Full bore runs from thaicpf. Last image is 54 minutes (!!) I am posting here as I think thaicpf went down, this was gotten from goggle cache, just in case the nice data gets lost. Pictures credit to brother dong of thaicpf. The diff between this and my test is that this is tropical temperatures kind of acid test, mine is 16 deg with a light breeze (I tested it directly under an air-conditioner airflow) which is more indicative of what you guys would get, probably even better cooling as I think you guys get cooler weather.
Light is regulated anyway, just for info Panasonic NCR18650 2900s were used.
Check out the animated GIF near the bottom. Check out the spill from the light direct from the emitters and not the reflectors, the lighting on the vertical pillar just beside the hotspot. SR92 and Sky Ray are nearly the same.
And the best thing is, the Sky Ray can operate as a shorty with 2 x 18500, Generic IMRs are only 8 bucks a pair on bestinone.net
Don't have to think, it is without doubt that the SR92 is going to throw farther. There is another thread with an animated GIF fo the SR52 and SR92, the SR52 is a 60mm reflector XM-L U2, something like it will throw slightly better than say a Catapult V3. The SR92 in turn threw a bit better than the SR52, while also being brighter overall with bigger hotspot and stuff.
Hey bro, any beamshots and hotspot size measurements of your Trustfire X9? (or did i remember wrongly)
Mine showed up today suddenly with no update from USPS so I was surprised.
I can't add any more than has already been said-it obliterates every other light I have with NO green in the tint at all. My tweaks were: Resoldering poor solder joints on the clickie and the spring on the driver, cleaning everything and making sure everything is nice and tight. Light came to me flickering and the tweaks fixed it.
Questions: Has anyone used 18650 IMR's? Not gonna be the guinea pig this time!
Also, I'd love to get a big glow ring for the head like in the UF-980L. Anyone know where I could find some?
My recommendation: Just go get it!! Wonderful light.
