I’ve got to do some de-populating, and have trouble with that. It’s one thing to solder tiny parts on a pcb, taking tiny parts off is another matter altogether.

I have done some bumps to 105c drivers for a friend, stacking on 6 or 8 drivers in a row between his and mine. I can be doing great, then suddenly have a leg that refuses to accept the solder. How can it be going so well, then turn to fail? Aggravating when it does that! I have decided I need to get some flux…

I must really and truly be sick, I have not modded a light in 5 days. :frowning:

I use a lot of flux, it makes my life easier. None of that no-clean or water based stuff, good old rosin flux. I use the MG Chemicals brand which has worked great for me; it is supposed to be non-conductive and non-corrosive, although I do clean it off of the board when I'm finished. http://www.amazon.com/MG-Chemicals-Corrosive-Conductive-residue/dp/B008UH4DT4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1388972957&sr=8-2&keywords=mg+chemicals+flux

$8.45 gets you a near-lifetime supply. I coat both sets of pins before I add 7135s... in fact I'm in a bad habit of putting a little bit on just about everything but it ensures good solder joints and helps me work faster.

2nd the flux suggestion, works wonders. I use the RadioShack flux and a tooth pick to apply exactly where I want it (pretty well any surface where solder will touch).

Also at the mention of MG Chemicals… DO NOT buy their 63 37 rosin core solder. It will not tin tips for crap. Severely disappointed at its performance. I should have just got more kester at a significantly higher price.

Figured you had some in stock since mtnelectronics on ebay has more than 10 in stock

EDIT: also need some 16340s so Ill have a nice order coming in when the king kongs are back in stock

Same here. A really good flux makes all the difference in the world. Soldering is impossible without proper flux. I use a paste flux called “Hydro Flo” by AlphaMetals. I’ve been using the same tub of flux for over 10 years. With this flux, I’ve soldered everything from stained glass repairs, SMD, SMD-rework, and reworking and replacing MCU’s. It isn’t considered a “no clean” flux, but it is water soluble, and cleans up really easy with alcohol. Sure, there might be better fluxes out there for electronics, but why change when something works perfect!

I have been using the MG Chemicals 63/37 and 60/40 RA flux and I haven't had any problems keeping the tips tinned, although I do tin new tips with a dedicated tip tinner.

I have some 380 mA 7135s on order.

Wierd, this solder right? I never had issues tinning tips with kester, but with this new stuff no matter how many times I clean it via sponge/flux or how much solder wire I push at it it will only tin a few small spots on the plated part of the tip.

I'm still hoping for stock of butterfly gaskets for XPG2. :D

P60 dropins are back in stock.

I am getting a bunch of them in my next big order!

I think so. My product code is 4885-227G, 0.032" Diameter, 2.2% RA Flux. I have about eight different tips I use and all of them have stayed well tinned with this. The flux is a little messy but it seems to do a good job. I have never tried Kester, but might get some for my next spool just to try something different.

Ha ha you guys probably think I'm pulling a fast one huh? Well I don't have more than 10 with me, but I do have a few. The thing is, when you run out of stuff on eBay you lose all of the stats for your item (number sold, a lot of watchers, etc.) and it really hurts sales for a long time, so when I only have a few left I usually leave them on eBay. I like you guys better, but I've gotta keep those sales going as well. I just asked Lisa and she says that we have more King Kongs than I thought we did, so there are a few more on the site now.

Love the avatar BTW, I love dirtbikes. One of my favorite things to do! A little off topic but here's a few of yours truly...

Forever I've wanted to put a stator on my YZ250 for night rides... now I just duct tape a SRK to my front fender!

This is my recent order...

Shows quality of package... batteries placed in plastic pouch, surrounded by foam, then boxed.

And Richard took it upon himself and exchanged a switch for the correct size I needed. Just an example of his service.

My previous order had a bunch of drivers. All tested and marked.

For example: "Tested at 3.28A" "tested at 4.71A" etc. pretty cool

Ahhhh a sand rider eh? I am more of a track lover myself but I do miss the sand pits. They all get shut down up north for “building” bunch of BS if you ask me. Still have the good ole woods to escape to if I want and there will always be a fresh groomed track somewhere

Back on topic, didnt think you were pulling a fast one but didnt realize that about the ebay stock thing. Thats BS on their part if you ask me. Oh well, as I keep looking in my drawers I keep finding a need for more batteries. Must stay out of battery drawer, its costing me too much $$$$$ :frowning:

EDIT: I was going to guess the year of your bike but they are identical from like ’02-’14 haha They dont care about the looks of the 2 strokes anymore. At least you are a Yamaha fan so you are good in my book. I have a ’06 yz250f with a ported & polished motor, full dr.d stainless, oversized radiators, cams, too dam much to list. full retail on the bike and parts is over $20k now H)

Orsm pictures. Theres nothing like a good old two stroke. I have a 1996 YZ250 with lights. Its fully road registered to ride on the road. Lives with a retired 1983 IT250. You can have your jump though, 30 + years ago I would of had a go on it, fallen off and bounced back on the bike. Now I end up in hospital broken. Seem to have lost the ability to bounce. Ok. Back on track. You got me excited with your pics.

Learned in the dirt, loved the street. I’m no longer allowed, the boss says no. Besides, Ulnar Nerve Relocation in both elbows and right wrist cut on, wouldn’t let em do the left. Just can’t hang anymore. :frowning:

But oh how I miss the speed…

Sorry I love to show my baby off

That’s a lot of serious fun right there!

Oh, you might wanna pull the plug on the tail pipe before you try to fire her up…

Just finished washing her, she is a dirty girl

and replace it with a potato?

Back to topic, although I love talking about motocross

Order placed

RMM, I know in the past you have been trying to figure out a good way to properly charge those cool high volt 4.35v 18650’s. If you are like me and love single 18650 lights powered by 7135 based drivers, and would love the benefit of the newest LG 3000mah and 3200mah 4.35v or Samsung ICR18650-32A 3200mah 4.35v. Not only would you get near a half hour of 3.04A runtime before deregulation, but the brightness ramp down is way less than with Pana-18650B’s, and it will stay much brighter a lot longer. These 4.35v cells are exactly what a 7135 based driver needs!

I have been coming up empty on my quest of a nice 4.35v charger, until now! It’s not available yet, but I would keep an eye on this charger, and when it becomes available, I think it will be very popular. The price is estimated to be between $20-25, which is fantastic.

OH, and P.S… Those empty P60 drop in’s are awesome. If more people knew you had them, you wouldn’t be able to keep them in stock!

That charger looks very promising

@RMM, do you know of any AR coated lens for the Convoy M1?
