Efest imr 10440. Better then any other 10440s. Test. Mountain electronics does ship internationally.

I tried once to order but it didn’t work it just displayed that I have to contact him for the shipping or so…
I would really like to have a source of some small IMR for reasonable prices.

I try the Marsfire in my ThruNite Ti but they are to big (and I damaged the wrapper of one) 10,59 x 45,55mm

I have these from dx.com. They are unprotected, but because of their relatively harmless chemistry you can use them “as better eneloops” and run them nearly dry. You’ll need a special charger for them, but they have exactly the size of an AAA eneloop and fit everywhere. The voltage is a little less than LiION, but i consider that a plus, since you don’t fry the driver or LED of these little keychain lights. :wink:

I have the soshine life 14500 and was very upset with it’s stored energy. So it’s laying around without use, maybe I should look at it again.
I didn’t knew that these don’t get destroyed when over discharged, any more infos about that?
I just ordered a Efest IMR 10440 and 14500 from a local shop, a bit more expensive but no hassle at all.

Anyone compared hjks finding on small imrs? Is the Efest the best?

If you drown a LiFePO4 cell till the end, you’ll only loose a bit of cycle life, but the cell will not get damaged permanently. Although you have to be careful in multi-cell configurations, because there a cell might be changed in polarity, which will probably damage even a LiFePO4 cell. The end of the discharge is also easily spotted, because of the very flat discharge curve. At the end the voltage “falls off a cliff”. The light literally simply goes belly up…

Small battery comparator
For 10440s, efest IMR 10440 is the best.
For 14500s, it looks like Sanyo UR14500P is best for low current & AW IMR for high current. Efest IMR14500 V1 flat top was just as good as AW but oddly the efest V2 button top didn’t test as well.

The problem is that life maybe is not life…
For example I have a life battery pack from turnigy which is only rated 1C or so, it’s just for radio transmitters…
Someone on DX says the soshine 14500 is rated 1.2A max so the 10440 would be 0.6A max?
Wikipedia just says that over discharge is bad but not how bad.
I thought you had some additional findings on the soshine cell.
Here are some comparisons with 1A discharge of life14500
Voltage is at 2.7V on the 1A discharge, not what I would call ideal for LEDs without boost circuit…

The standard Chinese nitecore or keepower 14500 perform a lot better in my flashlights due to higher voltage and longer runtimes. I am very pleased with results in AA flashlights like the saber1A or a generic sk68.

I will play with IMRs in the future to build some 3A 14500 lights because the standard cells aren’t made for more than maybe 2A.

Just a quick search in this forum reveals:

I have discharged a lot LiFePO4 batteries, including the soshines to the point where the light goes off. It’s not good for the life of the battery, but it will be no harm to anything else. Put the battery in the charger and it comes to life again. As i wrote, only multi-cell configurations should be taken care of. The only other point that comes to my mind, is a flashlight with under voltage protection, which traps too early. Than the stored energy in a LiFePO4 cell really “seems” to be very little.

BTW: I also have 10440s and 14500s from coolook, which seem no different to the soshines.

I use the LiFePO4 cells mainly in flashlights that takes standard AA/AAA (eneloop) and 14500/10440. When it feels too hot with a normal LiION cell, i take a LiFePO4. So the lower voltage is no problem and nevertheless it gets a lot brighter.

In addition to figuring out which 10440s to get, you will need to be careful about charging them. Most chargers will run at too high an amperage for these little guys, and even if they don’t get hot you can reduce their capacity and life. I believe you should try to stay below 250 maH; 100 maH might be better. As a rough rule of thumb, I generally like to have a two or three hour charge time on most cells. My M5s on 10440s are little pocket-rockets; I use protected Marsfire. Not the best capacity, but it is easy to over-discharge these guys, so I prefer a protected cell.

1+ Need a low current charger.
A Micro Lipo or LipoNano is an easy option (100mA). Modding a tp4056 charger board would be the least expensive option.

With a tp4056 board a 5.1k resistor gives 250mA, 10k for 130mA. A through hole resistor works or a 0805 resistor. The original resistor is 0603 but 0805 did fit on the pads. FT $1.56 0805 3.9K-62K Resistor pack 270-Piece

I usually use my hobbycharger for 14500 and 16340, 0.2-0.3A.
I have some of the tp4056 boards and pots laying around too, I have on plan to use a 10k pot to adjust current…

I would like to charge them with my i4 nitecore charger or Xtar MC0, not to buy another one.

What is your opinion about that?

The Efest cells arrived, I could manage to change my 14500 to aV1.

Both cells are amazing, really amazing how much juice is flowing out of them.

One question why has HJK two 10440 in the comparator but just one review?

10440 from dx, depands if its worth it to you. Ultrafire/trustfire tests don’t look so great compared to efest. Still, any 10440 should be brighter then aaa. Could be fun, impress friends perhaps. I never had _any_fire 10440. You can compare 10440s with HKJ’s Small battery comparator.

Only use the Xtar MC0 set to 0.25A.
The current on the i4 nitecore is too high. They try to claim its ok to charge 10440s in the i4 if you do them in pairs but its just too high. A pair of 10440s will receive pulsing 750mA, it averages 350mA but even that is too high.

The two efest 10440s? I’ve also wondered why the other one doesn’t have a review.

Because I have to many battery reviews to publish. I tested the battery and prepared the review, but then it got pushed back due to other reviews and got lost.

There are probably a few other of these batteries, both in the small and the 18650 comparator.

The size of the 14500 is really equal to AAs so might be an option for tight tubes.
