Review: Starry Light SA-22 4*AA/XM-L2

Thanks JM. Your review makes me think I should of ordered more than one.

Great review Johnny,I assume the BLF edition ones will be better with modes/PWM,which is great.I can't wait to get mine and thanks for the breakdown of the guts of this light.I think swapping out a sinkpad or Noctigon board will help manage some heat.

Do you have a head diameter measurement for those that may be looking at using diffuser accessories?

Exactly 37mm O.D.

Thanks for your review, Mac! Good to see that only real issues that someone might encounter could be PWM with stock light.

bugger this review makes me wish i bought more than one from the group buy

Anyway enough of my short sightedness, great review as always thank you for all your time and effort.

Thank you for the review JM. I am glad I got some in the GB

Thanks for the great review. Thanks to IS, too.

So glad the manufacturer take the trouble to label the switch, so many people spend months trying to figure out what the button on their flashlight is for.

Thanks for the great review JM! Your reviews never disappoint! Did you happen to do any kind of run time tests?

Hmmm…. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of lighting / color correcting, QC issues, misleading photos, or what, but the photos in this review show a far more drastic body/head mismatch than the manufacturer does. It’s one of the things I’ve been concerned about, especially since some other reviewers have mentioned that it’s noticeable.

To see what I’m talking about, compare Alibaba’s photo (first) with JohnnyMac’s photo (second) and Wilson’s review photo (third):

Nah…not this time. This was supposed to be a quickie review and ended up a bit more than I originally intended. I may do one but don’t count on it. I’m super behind on things right now nad have a bunch of reviews I need to make time to plow through right now.

JM - I look forward to seeing more of your reviews!!

Regarding the color difference, it’s really not that noticeable in person. Perhaps the lighting for the pictures brings out the color difference more, but it’s not too bad. It’s certainly not as bad as the Terralux Colorado. Though my opinion weighs much less than JM’s, I’m really happy with this light. It’s been the one I reach for the most when doing every day tasks. Reliable, easy battery maintenance, and great output are enough for me.

Thanks, OL. Your opinion weighs just as much as mine. I’m glad to hear that you feel pretty much the same about it as I do.

By the way, what tool did you use to remove the bezel ring? I was able to get the retaining ring off from the inside but wasn’t sure how the bezel ring was even held in place until your review picture showed it was threaded.

The color difference really isn't as bad as in the pics but it's definitely there. Hard not to be with two separate materials with different textures and different finishes.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks JM for another great review!

Thanks for the nice review Johnny.

A real nice review . Seems to me if water was to get into this light, it would be around the switch area, unless I’m missing something.

That would be the place, I agree. Easy enough to remedy with that large flat contact area. A thin layer of silicon sealant would resolve any possible leaking issues. I’m sure it’s watertight as it is but would be the weak link in the chain at further depths.
