Trustfire XM-L 2x18650 Zoomable

Interesting.

You could use that thing as a bat it's so long. It would be interesting to see it in operation though. Someone buy it and post your review :)

I just tried a DX 28mm lens with my trustfire f15 xml, but much dimmer than 50mm lens. I much prefer a zoomable with a 50mm or even 66mm lens.

Looking very closely at the pics of the light I've a suspicion that it can be used in 1x18650 configuration. It sure looks like a section is designed to be removed.

IMO The problem with zoomies is they don't capture all the light from the emitter. Its a compromise between long and short focal length lenses. A short focal length lens (thicker, more curvature) is better at collecting more light, but the focus (at the LED chip) is so tight that the size of the LED chip is bigger than the focal point. A longer lens (thinner, less curvature) is easier to focus but because it is farther away, it collects less light. A larger diameter lens is needed to increase the sweet spot, but these lenses are expensive and heavy.

So, if zoomies are inefficient what can we do? Throw more lumens at them! A zoomie with an XML @3A will be brighter than with am XPG @1.5A. (But the XPG should focus better.)

I'm no optics expert so don't flame me too badly. Please enlighten me where I've made poor assumptions.

I appreciate the idea for sure. It's also priced right @ under $30 USD shippied. Should be worth a shot, especially from what seems to be a very reputable Ebayer.

Iā€™m sure it would make an excellent bike light. I would buy one if it was listed on DX or Manafont.

I ordered it. Let's compare it to Yezl T9 and see how it performs..
