Beamshots: Comparison of modified budget thrower favourites

Great shots !

Great beamshots. Thank you for this comparison!

Thanks for taking time to do this! I especially like the dedomed T08. Impressive focus and tight beam!

great shots at a pretty interesting spot. looks like a camp ground.
nice collection as well

Great shots!
You have some nice flashlights !!!
I saw that you lit up the sky in west Norway, all the way to me … 198 miles …

haha.. Kurt_Norway :D

Glad you guys found the shots useful.

I noticed I said one emitter in the Lustefire was de-domed in OP. Its actually two.

If anyone have any questions about the lights feel free to ask..

I have a modded T08 too but yours is even crazier! 6.4A with constant current regulation lol.

Did you measure the lux reading of your 6.4A T08?

And where can I get the HX-1175B driver?

Great beamshots and thanks!

Super shots. Thanks for sharing, this one should be stickied because it’s really a valuable resource for people who are wondering which lights they should buy for modding.

Great beamshots! Thanks for sharing :)

PS: I agree, should be sticky'd

Very nice comparative photos…thanks

+1

I’m interested with the lux reading too. My modded T08 (dedomed XM-L2 T6 1B on SinkPads & ‘blobbed’ resistors) only gives me 5.614 Amps and 151K lux. It is surpassed by my modded Yupard 3405 (dedomed XP-G2 R5 1A on SinkPads & ‘blobbed’ resistors) which gives me 160K lux at 2.709A.

Nice shots!

I love when people do these comparisons. Those wide-angle shots are the best! Very informative going back and forth between the pics, trying to see which beam I like the most!

One question, is there currently any flashlight available right now, that has the Solarstorm SP03 triple reflector, but in a smaller size that would fit the ZY-T08? I love the amount of light that the SP03 puts out, but love the ZY-T08 smaller size. Is there a best of both world's flashlight that takes from both, and combines into one?

Warrior? It's a triple, but 3 cells (https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/19719)

Need big reflectors for throw, so anything smaller won't throw as well.

Seriously nice comparative beam shots. Thank you.

That is one sweet collection of big lights. You're BLF Certified for the recently rescheduled zombie apocalypses. OK, I'm not authorized to issue the certificates. But, whoever is should issue you one right now. I just slobberized my computer screen looking at those lights and beam shots.

Good source for HX-1175B? I cant say for certain. Check this thread. One source (from aliexpress) mentioned in that thread seems to advertise HX-1175B, but ships out a less powerful HX-1175C. Maybe ouchy had a good link? Again see that thread.

I actually down adjusted the current of my HX-1175B to 6,4A in order to be a bit safer, some info here.

About lux. Nice you asked about the ZY-T08 and not any of the others, because its the only light I have measured. :D

202.000@ 1 meter with a lux meter that reads lower than most/many and no AR lens. Measured at 5 and 10 meters. If I add a calibration value that would get me closer to people with higher lux readings (which seems to be owners of LX-1330B lux meter) I should be looking at around 230-260kcd.

Getting comparable lux values with other members with different lux meters is really hard. Especially since the readings can vary a lot between different lux meters. Im trying to gather some useful info on stock Convoy L4 lights in this thread just to see what differences people see on their different lux meters.

The Solarstorm SP03 is as small, or at least as short as you can get a light with that reflector. The reflector is wider than the whole width of a Z08.

There is a triple reflector that is larger than in warrior/SRK light. You can find it in the Shadow SL-3, see size comparison between that, SRK and ZY-T08 here. The Trustfire 3800 (TR3T6 larger brother) also have a very similar sized reflector to the Shadow SL-3, if not the same size. But with 3 stock and conservatively driven XM-Ls its no thrower. I modded a Trustfire 3800 with higher current and three XM-L2 U2 1A, one dedomed, it got decent range. But if you want to get a thrower with a fairly compact triple reflector. XP-G2s is the way to go. I considered to include my Supbeam M6, with XP-G2s, two dedomed. Its got good range, but I had to draw the line at some place. I have several floody lights with good range.

I don't know where a 3 emitter reflector that is larger than SRK can be bought. Best of both worlds? ZY-T08 modified with a 5 emitter reflector like OL did. 4 de-domed XP-G2s and one emitter to improve the tint in the middle. Should throw great and have good output too.

Thanks buddy. I might have pulled the trigger a certain Fenix large headed light too... 0:)

Thanks to everybody else for comments as well! :)

So what is your favorite light out of these? (or your go to light)

Only one favourite??? :_( If I could only choose two, I would say.

-Lustefire 3xU3 for allround long distance lighting with lots of light everywhere.

-ZY-T08 as a compact extreme thrower (with buck driver)

HD2010 gets a good and noteworty mention with a domed emitter, but I would probably take a SRK sized light with mixed XP-G2s instead. Good throw, but brighter, wider spill, better runtime, better CRI and tint, and smaller, less output sag due to several 18650 batteries.. Sure, its heaver, and not as comfortable in the hand, and it will overheat on high, and it needs a "hot high" in order to compete with a HD2010. But still..

Im talking about (my) modified lights here, in case there is any doubt. I can mention that I rarely use throwers as my go to lights. The triple emitters throwers can do everything at once, so they are nice. But sometimes too large. The SP03 is nice because Im able to fit it in my jacket pocket. It is bulky though, but small compared to the other triples, and its got good runtime too. Its a bit front heavy, and the handle is not that great.

Lustefire is the best light to carry out of the three, without a doubt.

BTU is a beast of a light! Not nearly as nice to carry as the lustefire, but with those 3 massive reflectors it can throw like my Lustefire, which uses 2 dedomed emitters. The BTU have have a nicer and better tint since no emitters are dedomed, and also slightly more output. Its not a very practical light though. And its way too heavy and large for only having 3x 18650 batteries IMO. But I kinda like it. Makes me feel like like Im a big child with a too large torch.. And that is a good thing. :D

The de-domed ZY-T08 is the light I often combine with a more "normal" floody light, simply because it goes nicely into a jacket pocket and its fun to light up things in the distance. If I bring several lights on a night trip or something, I often bring that light. Its well used now. I did lots of dedomes in order to find a good tint for it.

I can mention I have had my share of XP-G2 throwers. Even driven beyond 5A with constant output. But I prefer XM-L2. I have no real use for the uniquefire UF-T20 and my other smaller aspheric, they are just fun toys. Especially when its fog outside. :D

Whoops, I think I answered a bit more than you question there... 0:)
