Big discount today

Got mine today from the post office because I missed them Saturday. Everything in order: good packaging and a good sample. The headband is a little small as others have mentioned and it’s decent quality. The light itself looks to have a good build quality and the fit and finish are excellent. Well centered emitter, good quality optics and no flaws in the finish. This my 2nd headlamp, with the first being a Nitecore HC50, so it looks my collection is off to a good start.

This is exactly what I was expecting and the seller looks legit!

Just as advertised, this model uses a constant current circuit on every brightness level and has the ability to ramp down to sub-lumen moonlight mode. I’m not sure what the standby current is on this but I’m guessing it’s more than acceptable, and has tailcap lockout which makes this a good candidate for my disaster bag. With a pack of 10 year shelf life CR123A batteries that’s a whole lot of run time on low or moonlight in an emergency. Tint is cool white. The deep textured reflector give this thing a little throw, too, and a nice beam. All things considered, this is a good value. Now I’m plotting my next headlamp. Maybe a Spark SG3/SG5.

Well now I have to get a quote to ship it back. I guess it’s my fault for ordering something from Hong Kong. The customer service isn’t terrible but it’s a huge pain for a $30 light that will probably take several months to get replaced. By the way the inside of the light has tiny tiny wires that have very thin jackets.

My Crelant CH10 arrived today. Thanks NewesTrend.

thanks for posting the pictures, very nice! That switch looks ‘beefy’, how is the feel of it?

The switch is as beefy as it looks and has a solid feel.

Great headlamp. I agree the switch has a nice solid feel and click. I'm thrilled with mine!. One thing though, it's claimed to be an OP reflector, which it kind of is, but it's minimal to say the least. Almost smooth. How about you guys?

Got mine today and I am very pleased with it.
Just measured “tailcap” currents and got 1,9A on high and about 0.2A on low, parasitic drain is about 0.08A

Mine was flickering in the first but cleaning the contact areas solved this problem.

Not that much thinner as in other lights, it is just the insulation that is much thinner.

Yeah, the wire’s insulation is very delicate and the problem with mine.

I’m sending it back tomorrow- they said they’d refund the shipping.

I finally got around to fixing mine. I use a magnifying desk lamp like this

on my workbench, but the fluorescent lamp switch assembly wore out and my new LED ring lamp replacement is taking a long time to get here so I needed a good headlamp.
I like this little headlamp more than I thought I would. The cool white is a good, clean white without any blue at all. The adjustable intensity is really nice as well.
I checked the standby current draw and measured 712uA. That’s .0007A. So my 2400mAh battery will be fully drained in 3370 days. That’s over 9 years.

Mine lives in my emergency bag. It fits all my requirements: it’s light, efficient (no PWM) and has a wide range of outputs. With an 8-pack of CR123A primaries in the bag with it, in an emergency I’ll be able to ramp the output down if needed and stretch those batteries for weeks. But of course in an emergency I’ll also have my L10 with some Eneloops and a solar charger, so this headlamp is a nice little luxury for the bag.

I’m happy with my purchase, and will use this seller again.

I forgot this light could run on primary cells. I re-checked the standby drain on a pair of fresh CR123 cells and it’s right at 1mA.

Today is the first day of hurricane season and the National Hurricane Center says there is a 50% chance of a tropical depression or storm in the Gulf of Mexico this week. Your comment has me thinking I should add one of these to my bug-out bag.
I was looking at the warm versions and found a vendor at AliExpress selling an XP-G2 version (warm or cool). I ordered my Crelant 7G5MT from these guys and was happy with the purchase.
I like the floody beam from my XM-L2 version, but if anyone prefers a tighter beam, they might like the XP-G version better.

I hesitated posting a link to another seller in a thread apparently started by Newestrend, but the original poster hasn’t been back to BLF in almost 6 weeks, so I’m treating this thread as abandoned.

“Two is one, and one is none.”

For the disaster bag, I think I like the idea of a cooler tint which is slightly more efficient. In an emergency I probably won’t be worried about tint.

Check out my newest addition. I’ve been thinking of adding a 4x18650 battery pack to go along with it, though I’m already at about 50 pounds.

14 watt ultra-lightweight solar charger

I want to buy a headlamp, but I can’t decide which one. Are the Nitecore headlamps, either the HC50 or HC90, so much better than this one to be worth two or three times as much? I want a light that I can use for hiking or biking, but I could also use for reading or working in close quarters. What do you guys think? Is there another headlamp I should consider. I have owned cheapies, 3 for $10 from Costco, but would like to try something better. Thanks.

I just got the HC90 and I like the Crelant a lot better.
The HC90 has a sickly green hotspot and a light purple spill. You can see a purple sheen if you look across the glass lens so I’m guessing that’s where the purple spill comes from. The emitter used is very low CRI. I don’t like it at all.
The Crelant has a perfectly white beam. No colors at all. And it seems to be higher CRI than the HC90. Just looking at items around me with both lights (one at a time), colors look washed out and wrong with the HC90.
My Crelant is the cool white version, but still looks better than the HC90.
The HC90 has a much wider hotspot and spill. I suspect the overall light output from the HC90 is greater, but because the Crelant is focused a bit tighter, it appears brighter.
The Crelant headband is too small, but it should stretch out eventually. The Nitecore headband has a lot more adjust-ability and should fit any head; however, the Crelant’s light mount, the part that presses against your forehead, is a soft rubber that easily bends to give a perfect, soft fit, where the Nitecore light mount is a rigid, hard plastic. It’s not a big deal, but the Crelant is noticeably more comfortable against the forehead.
They both have infinite ramping, but the HC90 slider adjustment is easier to operate. The Crelant works fine, it’s just a pain to have to hold down the switch and wait for it to ramp up or down. It works fine, I’m just impatient.
I prefer a wide, smooth beam for close up work, but for hiking and biking, I would want the slightly tighter beam of the Crelant.
At the highest setting, the HC90 draws 2.2A
Turned all the way off, the HC90 standby current is 8mA
At it’s highest setting, the Crelant draws about 1.4A
Turned all the way off, the Crelant standby current is 0.8mA (10 times lower than the HC90).
So the HC90 is making a lot more light, but it’s also discharging the cell 10 times faster then the Crelant when it’s off.

I regret buying the HC90. I like the Crelant a lot better.

Edit- the Crelant cost me $30, the HC90 cost me $75.
Edit 2- for close up work, or reading, I’d just put a diffuser on the Crelant.

The purple haze on the lens is the AR coating, we like that… It shouldnt give a purple tint to the light though. I havent noticed purple tinges in my AR coated lenses. I guess maybe if its too thick it might, if thats even possible.

But thanks for the comparo stuff, I was looking at a headlamp, and a Crelant might be it…

I also own the HC50. It’s much more durable looking than the Crelant, and it does have the red LEDs. It’s a great product in itself, but the Crelant does have better tint, a constant current circuit and the ramping which I personally like. The HC50 is also kind of heavy, which is why I swapped it out of my emergency bag and now it’s my around-the-house headlamp. I think the HC50 is built better, but the Crelant has a better driver and tint.

I ended up buying three of the CRELANT CH10 Cree XM-L2 with warm white tint for about $63 total. Bought them from Aliexpress. I bought three to get the volume discount, but I can give one to my son and one to my son-in-law. All three cost less than one HC90, but the $74 sale price for theHC90 was hard to pass up.
