I bet I would try if only I was addicted more to nicotine. They seem very interesting, far more interesting than regular smokes (which I have never smoked).
Over cigarettes I prefer cigars but only about once /month (see avatar).
Hmm, might just start cigar-thread over offtopic...
I haven't had one die yet so I haven't pried one open, but my usb powered ones say ICR10440P 360mah on them so I assume they are standard protected 10440 Lion batteries.
The sealed factory batteries have built in over-discharge protection... So they are at least partially protected. When it gets down to a certain voltage, it will not work anymore :)
they are mostly Li-ion, some lifepo4, some use regular ol nimh (they call it the puck). they all use rechargable batteries. unless you get a mod, the batteries are not easily user replaceable. mods usually use anything from a 10440-26650. my mod uses 2 lifepo4 rcr123a for "6v" vaping. some people are happy with 10440s, they make for a small mod, and you can carry a few extras to make it a day. i think the usual is 3-4 hours vaping on one. ill usually make it a day on my lifepo's. they even have a custom nimh "5v" battery for vaping
if any of you smoke and is interested, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com is great. i think the ecig and flash communities could merge quite nicely
edit: almost all the ecigs that you cant easily replace the batteries are regulated and have protection. i believe the ego is regulated to 3.2v if i remember correctly. and most ecig users recommend "safe" usage of batteries, either it be a safer chemistry or protected cells
The batteries used depends on the e-cig (or "mod"). They're all either Li-ion or LiMn (with an occasional LiFePO4). At this point they are all protected. Were a few chuckle-heads building "mods" with CR2's, but that crap pretty much stopped after a few explosions/rockets/3rd degree burns. Was never real big on the Egos, but a 10440 doesn't quite seem right performance wise. At only 360mAh, they shouldn't be able to handle the draw on the Low Resistance atomizers. The "mod" that I use is a custom built using 2 UF 18350 XSLs with a switching regulator.
LOL....yeah, looking like a new sub-forum is being born.
what switching regulator does it use? ive been messing around with the kis-3r33s module some. i tend to try to reinvent the wheel, so most of my mods are fails... but someday the new wheel will roll like a mofo... i also have a couple ti modules im waiting to play with. got a ti 4050 booster, im going to power with a couple 650mah rc heli batteries in parallel, with USB charging. just got my batts today from china
when building one, 3a is usually what you want everything to be able to handle. people usually say a 10440 will last 3-4 hours, depends on atty resistance and how much you vape though
the okr-t6 is one i want to try, but havent got around to getting one yet
Yeah, 3 amp is the rule of thumb for builds. I have pushed mine to near 3.5 amp just to push it, but realistic range is 2-2.75 amp. It varies depending on what the resistance of the atomizer/cartomizer is.
And runtime all depends on the battery and usage....just like torches. My current mod with the 2 18350s (1200mAh) I go nearly 2 days between battery swaps. And now that I am thinking about it, the standard Ego batteries are "supposedly" 600mAh (900, 1000, and 1100 are options). Think most people are getting around 6 hours out of them.
I have been checking out the forums and links listed here and my head is spinning with info. It’s just like when you start with flashlights. I don’t think I’ll ever get that deep into ecigs but I would like to try something out. How about a few links to some budget units that are decent and that use replaceable batteries that flashlight guys have on hand and are familiar with. Is there a recognized good starter unit out there? Has to be kind of cool, not lame.
I am in the exact opposite boat here....head is swimming from all the torch mod info.
Really aren't any "starter kits" that use replaceable batts, but here's a good place to start looking. Two categories....will explain themselves :D Boxes tend to lean more towards the "custom" type where tubes are.....well, tubes. Actually the first e-cig "mod" was made from a Romisen torch (RC-A8 I believe)
