I'm always on the look-out for AA-zoomies that look less ugly than the sk68, I like this one (it has a good size lens too), and ordered one, $7.24 at dx, I will give an update about the quality when it arrives :-) :
That does look very ice. If Roche made a Zoomie, that is what it would look like.
DX always has some stuff nobody else has.
This one looks even better i.m.o., but it seems to have crappy intestines…
It will not have the quality of a Roche of course. (and not the throw: 'beam range 150cm' )
I agree about the looks of that one, very nice, I had not seen it before. The build quality looks very very cheap though, and the led is a dubious chinese one.
The intestines might be the same as that AAA zoomie I did that short review on.
It’s the same LED and only takes AA, not 14500.
It’s overpriced…
WB had it on promotion or group buy about 6 months ago. Anyway they have it cheaper with wallbuysfantasy coupon than DX.
Ah, the pictures on Wallbuys make it look cheaper ;-) . Anyone bought it? the coupon works, just checked.
My guess is that the performance will be just the same. It is more that I like the looks of this one than anything.
Looked over the spec. This may perform better than C78: XP-E R5 vs Q3. And looks “modern”.
IIRC R2 is the max bin for XP-E. Anyway, Chinese bins claims are about the same as Chinese lumens, you can’t trust any of them

Could be an error. This page now says XP-G R5 (but the link still says XP-E R5):

Emitter BIN: XP-G R5

The r5-a3 has always had a xpg. The light from the OP shows a xpe in the picture, and -coming from dx- it could be any bin, but more probably a q5 than a r3 (which is the top bin for xpe).

Nice looking zoomie. Good knurling, has heatsinking, and overall looks cleaner than a Sipik 68. Also appears to use a larger 20mm lens.
I expect in performance it’s probably the same as a Sipik 68.
…it’s probably that lens that everybody uses…
I think the sk68 lens outperforms those.

It depends on how you define performance: the (indeed in many flashlights widely used) lens has a larger diameter and longer focal length than the sk68 lens, it will have a bit more light loss than the sk68 when zoomed in, but also the (smaller) hotspot is a bit brighter than the sk68. Throw is highly appreciated here at BLF.
So I notice…
I’m more a OTF lumen guy I guess…
Wonder how it compares to the “classic” zoomie:
Torchlight C78
I’ve always loved the form of the c78.
SK528 looks good. Will get a few if there is a group by for it.
