fast review of the Lumintop Tool AAA

I really like lights with clicky switches and I really like lights that run on a single AAA, and there way too few flashlights with both. I have been eyeing the Lumintop Tool AAA for quite a while, and when I saw a good price on Banggood (I payed $15.08 shipped with coupon BLF), I went for one. I like it, and thought you would like to read a bit about this light too, so here's a quick review .

I got it in today (ordered june 4, took just 8 days to arrive :-) ) and it looks and feels like a decent quality light, nice matt black anodising, firm clicky, purple AR-coated lens, good output, three modes med-low-high-no memory, PWM-controlled modes, frequency between 500 and 1000Hz, nice beam with distinct hotspot, clip can be reversed, etc. etc. Really nice! And unlike what's on the package and the Banggood website, the led is XP-G2 . (Selfbuilt over at CPF did a review of this light last december, his version had the old XP-G, two modes, no PWM, different OP-reflector, no AR-coating was mentioned. So my unit is a new version, even the Lumintop website is not updated with the new specs). Oh, and this one runs fine on an Efest 10440 li-ion battery.

This is what you get, specs are on the package, I did not measure the output or anything, the claims sound very plausable so I'm pretty sure it is about correct, perhaps even a bit better with updated led and AR-coating. I will measure some output numbers on AA and 10440 later, and add it to this post. EDIT: lumen measurements are in post #2

It is not the tiniest of the AAA flashlights, but a clicky switch just takes up some length:

It comes apart effortlessly, no glue or anything, it is completely moddable, the driver board is 11mm diameter.

Eventually it will be modded, but I'm happy with it sofar :-) , hope you like it too.

Looks like great quality components in the disassembly pic.

It is dark now so I did some lumen measurements (ceiling bounce method). On a Duracell alkaline I get med28lm-low5lm-high96lm, on an Efest 10440 I get med116lm-low41lm-high287lm. So the output seems to have improved compared to the old specs (high on an alkaline 96lm compared to 70lm), and the Tool has nice numbers on a li-ion too :-) .

A very nice AAA clicky.

Thank you for valuable update!

Ordered.

nice offering! Me want one! 287 lumen AAA light (li-ion), wow! You did not know u would get the updated version, extra mode and upgraded emitter? Nice bonus!

This is competition for my Tank 007 EO9.

thanks for posting.

Anybody know anywhere else I can get one? Banggood is sold out.

I got one from wallbuys about 2 months ago but i beleive its the old emitter. Still a great little light though

287 lumen on an Efest 10440 IMR is what you usually get with these drivers: when they do not have to boost, it goes direct drive (with lower modes by PWM) and if the resistances in the electrical path from battery to emitter are not too bad the output gets towards 300 lumen. The cheap Ultrafire M5 does 300 lumens as well on the 10440 IMR (but is just 1 mode).

I did not know that I would get the updated version, that was nice, but what I liked about the old version is that the low mode was current-controlled with no PWM.

That is a pity. (I like to think it has something to do with this review of course, finally gives me the idea that I have an influence somewhere in the world, if only the stock supply of Banggood )

Thanks for the post sir!! I don’t think there are many reviews on it, I’ve being thinking about it for a real good while but the conflicting info were confusing me quite a bit. Some sites displayed it as a 3 mode but I was only aware of the older 2 mode version. I’m glad to see the improvements made, just wished the PWM was kept out and the firefly was kept in this version.

Thanks again!!

If you are still interested in this flashlight, the only place where you can find it is here: G2 version 19,50 $ + 2,00$ shipping/insurance

Jim, the banggood one you linked seems to be the twisty version with tail magnet.

Oh, you’re right, even though the “specs” say:

“Clicky”

:frowning:

Sorry :(!!

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen! The one from HKEquipment is not the older version. I was about to buy it, but wanted some confirmation, so I sent a e-mail to them and as far as I understood the Lumintop Tool they have is the newer 3 mode version.

ohaya

I’ll try the e-bay store you suggested, I’ll report back.

Thanks again!!

You’re welcome
I knew because some weeks ago I also wanted to buy it. Ok, we will wait your impressions, thank you

I like shapes with smooth curves.

Seems good and my tank is starting to act up with the beating it had got from my toddler. I’ll wait till it dies tho :stuck_out_tongue:

nice review.
i thought about getting one of these before. But now Banggood is sold out.

I PM’ed Banggood about this light, and they said that they are expecting to have them back again by about 9/24.
