I’ll point Bucket to this thread and see if he want’s to take you up on that offer.
Otherwise, I second Photon Fanatic for outstanding work. He made the Ti light that is my Avatar. Love it! I know he makes Ti Damascus, Tungsten, just about whatever. But he “works for money”. So your budget will have to be substantial in order for Fred to do it.
Thanks for all the replies. Budget is a consideration that’s why I propose a trade with someone who has a different skill set.
DenBarrett, Please, PM me if you think it might be something you would try. The limited machining I’ve been doing is pretty easy. Not seeing any problems related to the material. I ship to Canada often to my best blade stock customer.
I was going to post up about working with rare or hard to find Mats and how this effects the price but if you are producing Damascus yourself I am preaching to like minded people. All that I can add is getting it to look purdy is going to be a bear of a job. I look forward to seeing what the finished product looks like.
I really like the look of Damascus steel knives (I am up to 4 now) I can only imagine how this is going to turn out.
Again thanks for all the kind words and help making a connection. A deal has been made. I’m working on the steel today. If Bucket likes working with the material, I can make more. He said he might do a WIP so we all can follow the progress. That’ll be cool!
So many seem interested, here is a video of a piece being twisted. Not the piece but process is the same.
Matt informed me that the Damascus is in the mail. Hopefully, I get it in time to work on it over the weekend.
I never really paid much attention to Damascus steel in the past, but this has piqued my interest. Most of what I've read pertains to knife making, but I see a lot of promise for flashlights. It is damn purdy when it's etched.
