LightMalls UltraFire 15T6 16000-Lumen 15xCree XM-L

you can get to the driver? :open_mouth: oh cool… and yes please post the the mod to this light.
I have one too it’s bright but could be better…hmm i didn’t know you can add another battery to it and still work
BTW… which driver are you planning to swap it with?

The Reading I posted was With the driver installed and 5x battery.
It is a driver for SST 50. I also use this driver to my 12X t6 lights. Have try to install 4 of the KD 9A driver but all this driver died or dont work.
The Board is big so you has to remove the treads to get it installed.
It is the batterytube who fastend the driver. Use it with thermal paste and not use any spring. The driver is designed for up to 18volt input. The tailcap is about 4A with 4x battery and 7A with 5x Sanyo 2600mah.
Here is link to the driver. This guy deliver now tiny driver Board for SST led.

thanks for the link, the driver is 6mm bigger than the original… but I can’t even get my driver out from my light, how did you able to get it out?

I did a couple (J12 & J18) for a forum member and it took a nice tug on the spring along with some twisting to get the spring out.

TR-J12 or TR-J18 isn’t difficult to pull the drivers out… I was talking about the drivers on the 15 LEDs light

Now at aliexpress for $58

that is really cheap
thanks

And inexpensive…

Wow. Less than $4 per xml2 emitter. Sure wish they would make these long lights with side switches.

So what does this light need?:

  • I think I read 18650 said there are some open spots under the emitter base. So copper sheet inserts to get the heat to the fins.
  • Copper plugs through the one large emitter base
  • Better driver or maybe a driver mod?
  • Side switch mod (not an option on a light this long)
  • Dedome the 3 center emitters

Sounds like a totally unnecessary, but fun project. I really like the form factor and size of that 12 emitter that RaceR86 modded, but with stock xml2's for $58 this one is looking irresistible to me. Anyone got a better bang for the 15 emitter buck option?

I bought one of them a while back. Not terribly bright and the driver died. also it has one round aluminum star and it’s hollow under the star and around the edges where the emitters sit. The star is sitting a a large donut. I filled the stupid hollow donut in and now I’m looking for a new driver. But I have a feeling I mostly bought some cheap XM-L2’s.

If you wire the leds 5S3P, a 5xT6 driver will work, or the extra voltage of XM-L2 will kill the driver?

Hard to say what will happen until you try! At least for me, I’m not much of a driver guru.

Might be worth a shot though. Potting the driver really good would help the chances a lot.

Not a fan of boost drivers in big lights. Sorry, I don't know the answer Zeremefico.

The way I look at it 18650. That hole in the pill made this light's price drop. So I like it. Nothing some good old reclaimed copper can't fix. The light looks like it could stand more heat sinking mass and surface area, but hey, the cost is low once the 15 xml2's are factored in. Sure they are unbinned and probably cool tint. But with 15 of them, I won't matter that much.

Still wanting to hear if anyone has a better alternative for about the same cost..

As long as the number of emmitters is dividable through the number of batteries used it can be used with a FET driver…

So 15 LEDs and 4 batteries might get difficult…
Maybe drill the center three LEDs away and use one additional led with a seperate reflector and driver…

I also like the parallel batterytube multiemitter lights more especially the batteryvoltage monitoring is difficult in such a beast of a light with series cells…

Well, I got one on the way. I was hoping someone could talk some sense into me while I still had a chance to cancel, but the package has now been shipped.

I really was keen on one of those shorter 6 x 18650 lights like RaceR86 modded, but I just couldn't pass up $59 bucks with 15 xml2's included. All I have to spend anything on is a new driver (probably have everything I need for that already anyway). Mod plan:

  • Copper sheet inserts to get the heat to the fins
  • Copper plugs through thermal pads with a copper back for the large one-piece emitter base (Who recently showed us this idea?)
  • Different driver
  • 2 momentary side switch's added (just wrapping up doing this to my UF-T90 (SST-90 version))
  • Dedome the 3 center emitters

Not going to be one of the lumen monsters that the big boys around here make. Just enough light to safely run in the host with a turbo timeout.

EDIT: This vendor has some pretty good deals going on other lights too. $23 for SRK and some interesting toilette plunger "Securitying" lights.

I purchased one of these from Wallbuys for $74 Aud. When the parcel finally arrived in what seemed like a lifetime i tore the packaging apart with all the fervor of a drug crazed lunatic. Ignoring the multiple paper cuts on my bloodied hands i shoved the batteries in and ran outside to shine this awesome light cannon across my paddock.

Again and again i checked if it was on high and not low. I tried to block the reality but it hit me like a 7.62 NATO. This light was a woeful POS. I fell to my knees.

Three hours later my wife wandered out to see where i’d gone to find me curled up in a fetal position sucking my thumb.
My psychiatrist says i will be able to stop taking the special medication soon.

The point is this torch falls well below expectation. I have 2 9 x xm-l that kill it.

With a good driver and good cells, and some nodding, this light has potential!

Love your story and humor needmorlts and welcome to the forum.

Please don't think me callus when I say those are the stories I like to hear. They create nicely discounted mod hosts for me.

Some questions for whoever has this light in their possession at this time.

Can you post pics of this light operating in real time action ?

I have one on the way. I may take a stab at it. I have never taken or posted video and I have a limited data limit. So I hope someone else jumps in with some video first.

You probably already know this, but just in case. Everything I hear is that the stock light output is not impressive. The driver also seems to fail fast. This is a light to buy with the intention of modding.

UPDATE: The light arrived with several disappointments as follows:

  • Head is not 87mm in diameter like the ad indicated. It is 77mm. It is the same size at the 9T6 head.
  • Extension tube was packed against the light and the package was smashed. So there is damage to the finish in various spots and the extension tube was out of round and could not be screwed onto the light.
  • Emitters are arranged 5S3P via MCPCB and the reflector bottom is completely flat. Reflector bottom is too thin to modify to allow converting to 3S5P with wires.
  • Driver is a very wimpy looking boost driver. No wonder they have been failing so fast.
  • Heat sink is limited by the small head size and also be poor design. Copper can be added to get the heat to the body, but the body is too small to shed it to the atmosphere fast enough. High current levels are not a viable option.

Even without the damage, this light is not worth $59. Emitters of unknown bin and tint are of limited value.
