Review: Convoy S2 2800mA U2 1B from Fasttech

my s8 is ok for walks but, i wish it had a little wider flood and a little more throw, guess you cant have everything. not sure if it has the same reflector as the s2 but, the flood almost seems as bright as the spot. and the flood at 5 to 10 feet is only about 3 or 4 feet circle and it stops sharply.

i have the 2800ma version and it gets pretty warm after 90 seconds, but i think im gonna bump it up to 3600ma just for fun…. i want to change the led aluminum sink to noctigon, does anyone know if it just has thermal compound?

Nice find! But I will doubt anyone will pay $16 for that. For that price, I will rather get BG S3 black at $9.99.

The price is nice for a ready to run light. Great photography!

Bort, what was your shipping time?

Never BG again. My S6 was Banged up Good :open_mouth:

It took about 2 weeks, but i bought it over a year ago

Negative, I never got any in

I did however change the firmware…I put STAR with the ability to auto throttle and after 60 seconds drop from “Turbo” to a lower mode as to not overheat, still runs at 2800mA but instead of running wide open and getting INCREDIBLY HOT it gets warm then throttles back, the light slightly dims when it drops back but no longer overheats

long term use update above

do you know if they will work or have the same threads?

i dont have the flashing tools yet, but i have a qlite 3.04a driver with star firmware on the way along with a noctigon sink. i dont run my s8 on high very long. its plenty bright for close up stuff on medium, but outside for longer distance, i always want just one more high mode for a few seconds. i wonder how many lumens the xm-l2 2800ma is?

i have ordered many things from bg and never had a problem with them. they have good customer service. the convoy flashlight i ordered got to me in 9 days and i live one state over from you. most things i get from bg get here in at least 14 days.

thanks bort!

Great job for your initial review, you’ll only get better

No problem, i just just put another 3 hours of use on it today, did some spray foaming of gaps in the basement and elsewhere and starting installing a new washroom subfloor

honestly I don’t know…I was going to get one, but never got one so I don’t know

According to the Cree Product Characterization Tool an XM-L2 U2 at 2.8A (85ºC) produces 937.1 lumens, assume about 75-80% OTF and you get about 700-750 lumens

If you get standard star fw, its a throttle after 120 seconds, it will throttle back to around half power after that. I found 120 seconds to long, my s2 got uncomfortable to hold. I use the same throttle back value, but after 90 secconds on full power. Now it stays in the comfortzone ( in winter i would really like it).
60 as WarHawk-AVG uses is rather quick and won’t heat it at all i suppose.

Good review Bort. Nice writing and photos.

Can somebody point me to the right usb programmer for flashing the driver please? Thanks!

ok thanks! i didnt have anything to compare it to except a 150 lumen light and a friends 272 lumen mini mag and it is brighter than both of those.

i might be the guinea pig and give them a try.

i got a custom star firmware, its going to be 90 seconds. but if i add 7135 chips to make it 3.3a or 3.6a, 90 seconds might be to long. i need to get the flashing tools to experiment. i have a usbasp flashing tool for a turnigy 9xr transmitter, but im unsure if that will work. i need to get a eeprom clip to find out.
