Mini-Review: Cofly KX-D010

Thanks for the review. Nice looking light. Doesn't seem to be many good budget light choices in this form factor.

EDIT: Pulled the trigger and ordered one using discount code cofly. Thanks again Pregulla. :)

Thanks for the review!
A few months ago I asked if somebody know how to get more lumens from this flashlight. Now you got the answer

But…on data sheet I’ve read “Working Voltage: 3V”. What do you mean? working with a 14500 lion with new emittent? a 14500+1dummy cell?
Thank you so much.

I don’t have this light, but similar one and yes, I think that’s what he meant. One 14500 plus a dummy 14500.

No new emitter, it will take the 4 volts just fine. 1 14500 and 1 dummy cell.
Put the real cell in the rear, otherwise it will feel front heavy as the dummy has little weight.
2 AA’s when new will give 3.2v in series, primary lithiums give 3.6v as a pair so really it is not much of a stretch to the 4+ volt territory.
Will it take a few hours off the life expectancy of the emitter?
Maybe, but who cares, it’s a cheap light and that emitter will probably still be working long after you have grown tired of the flashlight.

Hahaha ok ok
Thank you for your explanation.

Just a more silly question: with stock led, how many lumens is? GB say 220 with XP-E, instead on DX.com saw 120Lm.

It is a good floody light or more trower? (I prefer floody for this kind of ligh). Thanx again!

Based on the beam shots in the OP, it looks pretty throwy. I'm with you Manx. I prefer floody in this type of light. I will probably throw in an XML or XML2 to make it more floody.

Wow!
XML or XML2 in it? When you’ll do it please make a lot of photos for all the floody fans. Thank you, you’re welcome!

It is indeed throwy with XP-E.
The reflector is a tight fit around the LED’s substrate. You won’t be able to fit in XM-L without modding the reflector. I’ve tried putting the reflector on top of XP-L in C12 and the beam looks nice and floody. For me XP-G2 is floody enough already though.

Good info. Your XPG wall shot looks pretty throwy too. I take it you were pretty close to the wall?

About 1.3m from the wall.
The XP-G has bout 1.5-2 times larger hotspot than XP-E. It also has wider corona and brighter spill. It has some throw to it as well, but the beam is more balanced and the hotspot isn’t as blinding.

I see. Thank you :)

Tried to order some of these from Gearbest—but tey are out of stock.
I opened a Live Chat with Gearbest Customer Service —and the Rep said the
Cofly is “out of prouction”. :frowning:

Waning, I know nothing about this company.
However they do take Paypal so you should be OK if problems arise.
Good price too at $7.48. Shipping cost ??

Both places say”in stock” but who knows, worth a shot.

Figures. It was a nice 2xaa xpe led for the price.

I just received mine today. Pretty sweet light. Was a bit surprised when I turned it on outside in the dark. Other than the next mode memory, I may not change anything else on it. I really like the look and feel of the light. Thanks Pregulla.

I'm debating about an emitter swap. It is throwy. But at the moment, I really like the beam pattern. It's not a light saber throwy, like a mini mag in focus. The hot spot spreads out in cone, albeit at a narrow angle..

It can take a 16mm emitter base and a 17mm driver. The driver in it is actually 15mm, but flush with it another ledge that is 16.8mm (I think most 17mm drivers are actually 16.8mm). There is plenty of space for 2AA's with a driver on that second ledge position.

This may be the easiest light to mod that I have ever come across. If you plan on putting in a bigger emitter than the stock xpe, you will probably have to increase the size of the emitter hole in the reflector.

About the only think I would like to see different on the host part of the light is a shallower reflector for more spill.

EDIT: Added more content.

Ceiling shot of Cofly’s reflector over XP-L in a C12. About 70cm from the ceiling.

Very nice floody beam. The transition from hotspot into the corona is very smooth, I could barely tell where the hotspot ends. The corona i wide and smooth. There are still some blurred “petals” visible, but they likely won’t be noticeable in real life use. The coronal is larger than seems on the picture and fades out smoothly. Funny thing is that the original beam of the C12 is quite ugly with XP-L.

Thanks for that info Pregulla. Decisions, decisions. I guess I will use it for a while and then decide. Modding the reflector is an irreversible change.

Does the link in the OP work for you? I tried and I get a 404 error.

Fixed the link with the one from their deals thread. It doesn’t come up in search on their site though, not sure if it’s still available.
BTW XP-L works with the original reflector, you don’t have to mod it.

They sold out about a month ago. Gear best gathered up 10 more units but they are gone now. They said that this light is not being made anymore

Yeah, it seems unavailable now at GB. Muto has a couple links above for $10 and higher w/shipping. I only found one match on Ali for $24.xx w/shipping. Appears that $6.78 was a real good deal.

EDIT: Ah, I see. Thanks phsinvent. What a shame. Pretty decent light. Really decent for the price range.
