Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

and I checked my GPS and found out that there was a HD just over the state line in Westerly, RI
So I stopped by to check it out.
I made a bee line for the LED bulbs, just to see what they had and if there were any more of the clearance bulbs. This is what I saw.

Look at that, LOTS of the same bulbs I found in several of the CT stores at a penny each. But look at the discounted prices, they end with “7”, not the “6” or “3” as with the CT stores. I brought those bulbs up to the self check out hoping that they would ring up at a penny, but NO, they rang up at the posted price. Now I am confused. Why is it that so many stores cleared them out, but this out of state store has them on a different clearance trajectory?
With the post by someone in another thread about how his HD had tons of the OLD 5-C Defiant flashlights at $5.66, I am thinking that maybe when they clear out stock that does not sell, they don’t actually throw it away, but send it to a select few stores and try to clear it out there?
Anyway, I walked around and saw a few things, one of which is the Philips 60W equiv. bulb for $2.97! I got a couple, they are 3.97 in CT.
I saw these PVC adapters actually priced at a penny, but passed. Thought I would let someone else have the fun.
Wasn’t that magnanimous of me?

The cheapest I ever saw these before were $10, marked down from 34.95

This power strip was originally 9.88 and was marked down to some price that ended with a “6”. Now it is in the next stage and is at 2.53, ends with a “3”.

That is all I saw at that store, and only bought the 2 Philips 60W LED’s
Did get 2 battery packs on the way in though. One was no good, the other had some gunk that was spilled on the top and oozed onto the BMS board. Once I cleaned that off, the pack charged up OK.

Different clearance trajectory… that’s pretty much what I run into every time I go to Home Depot. Pretty much nothing is ever on sale here, especially not at the kind of prices you’ve been finding.

I did get some plastic organizer bins for $1 each a while back, but so far that’s the only deal I’ve ever found.

Maybe the pricing is controlled regionally and that store is in a different region. It seems the individual stores can override national/regional prices. My experience here in the SE is closer to ToyKeeper's, but sometimes dcho's deals happen here.

Well I stopped back at my local HD this morning, specifically for those Hart hammers, and came away with some pretty good clearance buys. Here is what I found:

Quite a few of these surge strips left; I grabbed 2.

Just noticed the above lifeP04 batteries in the landscape lighting section. 14430's & 18500's.

All Hart hammers are gone at this store! DOH! Should have grabbed them last Friday at the other store! (Note the boxes in these photos are not the correct Hart boxes.)

So here is what I walked away with - $12.53 after tax. Hacksaw blade 2 packs @ $1/ea and the knife sharpeners (I use for machetes) @ $2/ea.

Didn't have time to run to Lowes (it's only right across the street).

I went to an HD while I was out yesterday. I was 70 miles from home and realized when I came out of HD that there was a LOWES across the street. At first I was just going to head home, it was getting late, but a voice inside me said, but you gotta do it. So I did and found some nice landscape lights on clearance at 75% off.

I posted in the LOWES deal alert thread, but I think those deals could have just been at that one store. I am heading over to my local store now

Yeah, I wanted to look for those landscape lights myself. I was running late to work and didn't want to get to work any later.

Nice finds and info Garry. Cool they are selling loose cells now.

I swung by a HD for one of those hammers after you first announced it, but none could be found.

Did you find any sign that they had been on clearance at your store? Or do you think you didn't have the clearance that we did?

-Garry

Here is the power strip that Garry got. At my Home Depot they are still marked at $7.56 ends in a “6”, but they ring up for $2.53, ends with a “3” (Better pictures on the road now, taken with my new iPhone6!)

Hey dc - notice that date on the yellow clearance sticker just below "was $9.88" in your photo, any significance to that date? I had wondered if that was the date of the start of that "6 week" / "3 week" countdown, but the date is too old for that.

-Garry

All of the lights and timers and worklights and cell chargers had dates of around 3/14/14, and they went on clearance all at the same time. I still don’t know exactly how things work. Apparently there are not hard and fast rules?
There might be some sort of “art” to all of this.
Or maybe it’s just Magic?

Maybe I need to take a part-time seasonal job at Home Depot so I can learn the "inside secrets" and post back :) !

-Garry

^ If you did that, we wouldn't have any more fun trying to figure it out.

Interesting about the date. Nice catch Garry. Glad you keep that info dcho. Definitely seems something to watch out for.

About the hammers, I couldn't find any hammer like those or any indication that they had them in the store I visited.

Here is a sample of the lights that went on clearance, then to a penny. The date reads “03/07/13”

They were pitching this 12V drill and driver pair with 2 batteries for $99

This is a very good deal as the cells used are the 2AH cells. One pack is rated at 2AH, the other is 4AH. So you get one of each. Deal includes charger and bag.

They are not on the floor yet, you have to ask for it at the desk. I picked one up this morning, of course used my HD card to save an extra 5%

I have the 12V Ridgid drill and like the smaller, lighter feel of it. Unless you are doing some real heavy duty work, this is great.

I almost forgot, register this tool and there is free lifetime battery upgrades and tool replacement.

Nice find. I'm a fan of Rigid's tools. They are present in some of my build pics.

I price checked a few items today that you have purchased for a penny. They were at "3" prices like $1.53, etc. They rang up at the posted prices. The dates on each was 4/17/14.

I was at a HD that I last visited 2 weeks ago. I went around looking for clearance items that had stickers with a 6 or 3 as the last digit in the price with the date of at least 3//14. Anything newer than that at this date (11/01/14) has not had enough time to go from 6~~3~~>.01.

this first light was on clearance marked $18.00 down from an original of 19.97.

The date on the sticker reads 3/19/14, that is plenty of time for further price reductions. It is a florescent fixture with a cheap vinyl globe, I’m not really interested in it unless it rings up for a penny.
So I brought it up to scan.

I was right, it has gone down twice more since the original markdown sticker of $18.00., some unkown price that ends with “6” and the current price of 5.03. Based on the date on the sticker, this could go to a penny at anytime. If I really wanted it, I would keep my eye on it, there were 5 on the shelf.
Here are a couple of items that did ring up for a penny.

There were also some cat6 jacks that rang up for a penny, they were loose on a shelf with no price but i suspected that they were also part of the same clearance as they were part of the same line of Leviton stock. I was right.
And a surprise, I found 1 more MR16 LED. It was marked at $20.97, but I recognized it as one of the ones that previously rang up for a penny.

All in all this is what I was able to pick up for a total of 14 cents, trouble is I have no use for any of it.

This is not an exact science, here is a pic of a light that ends with a “6” with a date of 12/13/13. The 6 suggests that it should have gone to 3 by now, in fact been removed from the shelf. But there are about 10 of these and they ring up at $12.06

Wait a minute! I saw at least one of those Philips MR16's at my store. Think it was marked $20.97 as well! Guess I'll have to check again!

-Garry

Stopped at my local Home Depot to look for those Philips MR16 bulbs. Here's what I found:

Oh boy! About 6 or so on the shelf still marked $20.97! Maybe I finally found a penny deal! Walk it up to the self-checkout for a price check:

DOH! Rings up $20.97!!! Guess dchomer and I are in different Home Depot districts or something!
