Thanks George,
grabbed one.
Great price for charger and 4 eneloops.

$3.99 4D lantern at Repco (starts 20th Nov).

http://catalogues.repco.com.au/offer/lanterns-torches-outdoor-lighting/gearup-4d-battery-lantern/50nyivv3n.html?source=catalogue

The closest I can find is a Dorcy 4D lantern that looks nearly identical apart from some small differences, the incan gets 15 hours from 4 D cells and the LED version gets 220 hours (9+ days) both at 40 lumens.

Might be worth it if its the LED version.

G'Day Aussies,

You can double your monthly limit for free, 3 times a calendar year.
I just discovered this, so could use 200GB this month rather than my plan’s 50GB…

.

Aldi have “Coolabah BBQ Light” for $18
Metal, 3xAAA 12 LED

Looks suitable for a workbench light.
Might be a nice mod - put in a NW emitter, new driver and 18650.

I was looking to get some LED light bulbs so I asked Gearbest if they could generate some coupons for the ones that I was interested in. It’s not much of a saving, but buying at least three of them, you get a $1 saving the original price. All but one bulb is your standard B22 socket, with one being an E27. These coupons are valid for a month, so expires mid-January 2015.

I decided to try their LED bulbs by buying this first. Turns out it’s pretty good. So bought more of them to replace other fluorescent light bulbs around the house.

My local Bunnings had 3D Maglites on special, two different models for $29.00 incan and $30.00 led.

Do you know if they are the newer improved (brighter at least) LED model, or the previous one? The older one has a horrid donut but decent punch for alkaline power, the new one is supposed to be better in beam profile and lumens IIRC (although dont quote me on the beam, it might be wishful thinking).

I would guess its the older led version. You would only buy one to mod would you not?

I thought the genuine LED ones couldnt be modded, or not without a lot of work. The incan ones were the pick to mod? Or do i have that wrong?

I have no idea. I suppose it depends on the interpretation of modding. OL was not impressed with the latest (led) ones to mod but I dont believe that is what Bunnings have on special. I'll have to snap some pictures next time.
