Could not believe it as they kept sending me emails saying they didn’t have the right phone #.
Anyway, they still have the dirty lens but do not seem to have the paper disc under the star (at least on the one I took apart). I’ll check through the rest of them tomorrow.
First one worked fine for like 3 cycles then went dim.
So I started messing with it, ending up throwing out the stock driver and putting one out of the Ultrafire F13’s from OL’s group buy a few months ago. I had resistor modded that one and it pulls 3.43 amps at the tail cap on high at start up settles around 3.2, so in it went with a used XM-L T6.
Cleaned the lens as best I could without having access to 0000 steel wool.
Braided the tail cap as well as the driver spring.
Had to use one of the thin butterfly spacers over the emitter from FastTech. Ground down the reflector bottom outside edge as it was wanting to short out the wires.
Turned out great, no rings and it still throws good, better than most C8’s and has nice spill.
Has really good thermal path as the head gets nice and warm, output holds well.
WARNING;
For whatever reason these Jacob’s do weird things if you use a long cell. Even after changing the driver, I think it has to do with the battery tube being anodized and maybe the tube is not making good contact with the tail cap ring when using a long cell. I found that by taking the brass colored cap off the driver spring it helps with cell compatibility
After modding this one, it is not the lazer that the stock small die emitter is, but I have lot’s of them to toy with.
I think the next mod is going to be a de-doomed XPL.
Anyway, hats off to Aurabuy, they did deliver.
Later,
Keith
