Lowe's Lux Pro MAX 2D LXII flashlight Video tear down, + photos and Mod to MT-G2/6xAA NiMHs - Beam Shots are up!

Great mod! I like how these assembled lights targeted for the “average consumer” are easy to mod.

Does it handle the heat well at 3A?

It does pretty good. Better than I thought. No matter what, with an MT-G2 it will get hot fast, but the pill and the section it screws into are fairly thick, so there is quite a bit of mass there.

Very nice mod. Have you completed any run time tests with it? I gave up trying to run an MTG-2 with 8 Eneloops and the cheap five amp driver. It kept blowing drivers up.

Nice tear down vid.
By now you just have in stock most any part to mod any light.
How about some beam shots of the modded light compared to the unmodded one?

Edit:
Good news for modders. When I did my tear down, I noticed and forgot to check. The plastic reflector that comes with this light, shaped for an XP-G2 is the same width and height as the aluminum XM-L reflector in the C8’s.
The XM-L shape is optimized for the the larger XM-L and therefore should be a closer match for the MT-G2.

Also the glass lens for the C8 is a perfect fit.
It doesn’t look like it from this pic but the height is the same. This reflector and lens will drop right in.

^ Very excellent discoveries and report dchomak. Thank you.

O-L,

As always, you make some of the best tear down and mod threads. All kinds of good info in your words and pictures. Love all the power options your light has. That 6AA holder you made here is already coming in handy.

Yep, when I measured and found it was 41-42mm, I just about knew C8 would work. I just don’t have any C8 stuff as I hate those lights, LOL. I will do beam shots tonight. It has been raining, so I held off.

That black thing on the driver (end of the video) is probably reverse polarity diode…

I have been Banned from buying anything until after Christmas by my Wife.
She claims that I am to hard to buy for…………………
But I did get a call from her while she was at Lowe’s asking for the details on the light.
She did pick up 2 for me and they had the XP-G2 emitter.

So now the wait begins for Christmas, much like ordering a light from China

Cut down for one Li-ion 26650 or 18650. led4power driver with turbo. XP-G2 with the dome shaved off and on a Copper mcpcb.

Beam shots tonight of a stock light, the MT-G2 light and the 1D light.

Justin,
Great job on the video and other information on this light
I like the idea of the MT-G2 using the two 26650 batteries.

What is the story on the reducer tube to make the 26650 batteries fit

Thanks

Keeney Mfg. Co. 12-in Plastic Straight Coupling just cut to fit and use an O ring or two around it, for less play.

Thanks for the info and for some strange reason I think that I have something like that in stock.

Oh my, that shorty looks great.

Do yall think it’s possible to use blf20dd-z in this application?

Beam shots are in the OP now. Stock light, 1D light, MT-G2 light

I sometimes don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing that I live 75 miles from the nearest Big Box Store.

I’m waiting for you to mod a Taco Bell burrito with an MTG2 …

Brrrrrrpppp!

I am posting to say that I went to Lowes today, got the light. It is different. The driver is different, and the driver retaining ring does not unscrew; it is a press fit job (that I managed to mangle trying to “unscrew”)

^ Hmm, is that one of the older XP-G (Not the newer XP-G2) model? The pill looks different then both models though.
