Have you seen this type of counterfeit 18650 battery before? UltraFire

I bought one of these Police brand lights c/w battery and plug it into the light to charge charging system, I noticed some thing odd about the battery (this was a few years ago, I know better now) -

Guess what on Amazon right now -
Notice the battery

Greedy money grabbing, dangerous vendors. Watch out for them.

That’s the exact set I have. It was my sort of introduction in the LED flashlight world. Paid like 5$ for it.

Same here, I got two, they sent one free when I complained the LED was not as advertised - I binned both batteries and still have the lights somewhere but never use them, they aren’t very good.

lesson learned :- Old laptop pack 18650 pulls far more better than those fakes even after 3-5 years old & used.

So i got my hands on a Turnigy Accucell hobby charger and started going through my laptop pulls. They were rated for 2200 mA but charging them got them to about 2100 mA. Is that a sign of good cells? With my Ultrafire charging current goes to about 0,2A and sticks to 4.2V. I’m charging the Sony laptop cells starting at about 1.5A. Are they any good? I didn’t have the patience to run a discharge test yet but I’m thinking that if they take 2100 mA they should also discharge 2100 mA. Am I wrong?

Sounds like good pulls to me, Daniel

“Uitra Flrc” is just hilarious though…
And puzzling too, because it’s as if original UltraFire doesn’t even exist…

Really need a discharge test for accurate capacity.
If any laptop pulls heat up during charging toss them.
Also check for elevated self discharge. Charge to full, let it sit for a week then measure capacity.

I wouldn’t recommend ultrafire / _any_fire chargers.

heres some more if you cant get enough!
more whateverfires

not to mention unstable flight due to imbalance!

Yes I occasionally post a review and detail the truth on Ultrafire and other bogus 4000-6000mAh batteries, but more often than not, my reviews are overwhelmed with uneducated “Runs my flashlight bright! 5/5” and phoney reviews.

Whats the lowest capacity any of you has seen on one of these cells? Mine was about 500-600mAh on a “5000mAh” cell. It also had phoney protection and no vent holes, but I didn’t dissect it.

i wound up with a supposedly bad light that was bought at the flea.guy paid over 100.00 for it.light was ok but the batteries were the issue.
ultrafire blacks one at 32mah and the other at 105mah.
the guy was happy he wasnt completely at a loss when i told him to come get it that the batteries were bad.
it wasnt anything anyone here would pay $100 for but it was decent once i dropped in a good laptop pull.

If you are reading this thread, you should also read this thread:

Seen it? I survived it… 8)

AFAIK they only make them to 3000 or 3400 mah.

All others are fakes.

Battery Junction (an otherwise fine US seller) sells UltraFire batteries.

I wonder what we could do to get them to stop doing that?

Thanks,
-Chuck

Hmm, I think its all ethics vs profit. Ultracrapfire you can get for a ridiculously cheap price to resell if you buy a bunch, so for some its hard to resist…

I’ve heard $.50-$.25/battery for mass quantity Ultrafire to resell, so even selling at a buck a piece is a nice profit for the seller, but bad for the buyer of course…

A couple of months ago BG Micro listed some 5000 mAh Ultrafires. I emailed them saying impossible and they needed to have them tested. The owner of BG knew another member here who was able to test them for him and the batteries were total disasters. I was not given actual numbers but it sounded like they were in the under 500 mAh range. In other words basically no capacity at all. BG pulled them even before they were tested when I pointed out that the marked capacity was impossible.

sign of a good vendor.even better is to research items before ordering stock.

 LMAO!!

Hi Chuck,
I just looked up the correct spelling = Battery “Junktion”. They are probably just a distributor who just sells and has no idea on what they are selling.
I wrote them a letter…no response.
We cannot someone from selling cheap junk and misleading customers. When they get called on the problem, they just disappear and resurface under another name.
Information is power. Just keep the info flowing.
Good post.
