Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Next week I will be taking a trip to Ohio. It’s about a 10 hour trip with normal stops. This time I plan on stopping at 8 HD’s along the way. My GPS can be set to find POI’s “along the way” that are no more than 1/2 mile off route. Very handy for finding a Dunkin Donuts or whatever kind of stop you like. We shall see if I can apply my theories on this trip.
Meanwhile, just today I found 2 more LED bulbs for a penny. These are old stock from a month ago’s clearance and when I saw them I recognized them as the “penny” lights. These came from my hometown HD, 3 miles from my house.
The self service checkout at HD and the receipt dated today, 11/30/2014

I have so many of these now I have decided to have a give away on some of these. Look for a separate thread on this coming shortly.

Yesterday my wife asked me to find one of the LARGE 59 inch Teddy Bears that HD had on BF. All the stores around here were out but I found that there were still some 22 miles away at a HD near the Massachusetts State line. It’s a long drive, but who cares, there’s a Costco up there too.

So I bought one, brought it out to my van and went back in to see if I could make the long trip really worthwhile. Only thing I could find is this display for an electrical outlet with an integral USB charging port.

Price ends with a “6”, now to check the date. Is it more that 6 months plus 6 weeks old?

3/18/14, that is old enough! This could ring up for a penny.
And it did, got 4 of them. Actually 5, the last one was stuck in the cardboard and I made another trip into the store to get it.

Here is the tear down of that unit.

Copper heatsinks.

It’s even iPhone and iPad compatible. Here it is pumping 1.69A into an iPad and 1.26A to the iPhone.
The package claims 3A, so that must be the limit to the 2 USB charging ports.
I will use one of these in the kitchen, the others? Maybe I will give them away.

Very impressive, i would enjoy having those outlets!
I wonder what that GPS within a 1/2 mile thing is called, if it has an official name, i would want it in my next GPS

it is a feature in iGo8. That is the GPS program that is shipped with most generic Chinese GPS units. It is also probably the most feature rich of any of the programs out there.

Hi DChomak,

Thankyou for posting this.

Do you happen to know what kind of Led that last Defiant flashlight set for $16 has in it?

I also notice the build quality of this year’s Defiant/Lowes flashlight’s use some of the same tailcaps/head’s/button’s I wonder whom the flashlight builder might be for these stores?

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. I'll be swinging by HD in my near future anyway, though I might skip HD's offerings and run across the street for another Lowes 2D XP-G2.

I believe the package said 350 lumen. I looked and I think I remember an XP-G2

Those 2 lights for $16 seems pretty good.

Why not 1 of each?

Play money around the holidays is much tighter :( .

What I do To get around that is think, I’ll just gift it. That works pretty well, but then come Christmas, everybody ends up getting 5 flashlights LOL

Thanks dchomak. Guess Black Friday must have been a bust. I looked at the 2 pack that is now $16. They just don't do anything for me as I have several lights like them. Maybe someone will do a tear down and change my mind.

Yes, XP-G2 but there's no driver. There's a rectangular pcb with the switch and 2 smd resistors on it. The Lux-Pro 2D is brighter stock and I think much easier to mod unless you just want to direct drive it.

I recommend the big 1500 lumen 3X XM-L2 they have.

This has turned into my bedside light.

Only problem is it has a plastic lens so I ordered a 60mm lens from here—> FlashlightLens.com - Your source for high quality glass and acrylic flashlight lenses. - Flashlightlens.com - Online Store

This light remind’s me a lot of my Trustfire J-19 but this light stay’s by my side door as one of my animal watching light’s.

Thankyou Gj for letting me know about that flashlight.

That’s a 3c Cell 700 lumen zoomie for $16.00. The only flashlights of mine I can compare it with are my 2c Cell Costco Duracell 500 lumen zoomie, and my 5c Cell Defiant thrower — and the 700 lumen Defiant is noticeably better for the focus & extended zoom than the Duracell & a bit brighter than the 493 lumen Defiant.

The button is on the handle of the 3C which I prefer. Both the end cap and head of that light are crenelated and sharp: a bit too sharp so I took some fine sandpaper & toned then down. I prefer the 3c cell longer handle over the Duracell for those times when whacking moles may be necessary. The shaft of the 3C is nicely stippled for a great grip. This is a no brainier for $16. I bought it in Livermore, CA.

I picked up a 2-pack of the 350 lumen Defiants. No, they are definitely NOT high quality but for the price of $8 a piece WITH batteries, I think most non-flashaholics would be more than impressed. Fairly tight hotspot, decent amount of spill and good throw. You could do a lot worse with $16.

Thank’s guy’s for your impression’s on these flashlights.

As for the double pack of 350 lumen defiant’s it appear’s they use C batteries….if that’s the case it’s good to have a few of those around as here in Florida when we had the hurricanes hit us hard we were out of power for week’s and the only batteries you could ever find on the shelf were C batteries….this is why I picked up two of the utilitech 3C battery XM-L2 flashlight’s in case that mess happen’s again but like you said Badger4715 these light’s are not realy impressive to flashoholic’s but as flashoholic’s we know what light’s to have and when is best to use them.

Hope dchomak is ok with me borrowing the below pic. I picked up the below 2 pack just to see if the tube would fit the legendary DST. It doesn't. The tube is too wide to even go into the DST head.

The light is thin and cheaply built. Not even going to bother doing a tear down or review thread on it. Unprotected King Kongs don't fit diameter wise. The tube would need to be slightly bored to get them to fit. Whyyyyyy? Defiant, please bring back a quality light. Make an xml2 with 80mm head that holds 4S fat C cells (that way 3 26650's can be made to fit).

I saw those same (2) for $16 lights at my home depot earlier in the week. They didn't impress me so I didn't get any. Glad I didn't.

They're not bad for what they are, they're just bad for what we would want them to become. Remember they're only $10 at full retail with batteries included, at $8 it's good to throw in the car trunk with the cells separate in a plastic bag.
