Anyone pulled the trigger on this ?? Manta Ray C8 Cree XML

I am looking to get a new XM-L for a friend and was hoping to get an alternative to the KD C8 XM-l. Hopefully something with about the same price / build quality I came across this http://www.bestofferbuy.com/manta-ray-c8-cree-xml-t6-1000-lumen-5mode-led-flashlight-p-70961.html

Thanks

You can check posts made by agedbriar. He refers to his Manta Ray C8 in a number of different threads. I think it looks nicer than the KD C8 and it has a recessed switch for tailstanding. Although you might get one that isn't driven too hard since agedbriar stated his reads ~1.4A on high, indicating it might be regulated (I figured a cheap light like that would be DD). The Trustfire X9 draws about 1.8A and it's DD so...

I bought a trustfire c8. 2.1 A h xtar 2600. I still think the kd c8 is the best value for $$$ light.

That flashlight is also called C10 , with different names, Uniquefire or Suterfire. At least on the outside they look the same with the Manta Ray C8 . According to some chinese seller this is not the case with the reflector???? Should this image be trusted?

I do not know if Mantaray C8 is the same with Uniquefire C10.

Ok It seems initially the flashlight was a Ultrafire C10. The question is why the Manta Ray "C8" looks like all other C10 flashlights. Why isn't it called C10.

This is SuterFire C10. Another Seller shoes the same thing , deeper reflector. Look up for my other post.

Yeah the XM-L version in case you ask.

What's that?

That's funny....that's my question to you!

The pics you hotlinked aren't showing up that's all. :)

I see all the photos, even the ones in your quote . But I'll upload them somewhere and then link them again.

I wonder why I can see the photos and others can't.

Funny, you should post some of those smileys to those who keep posting links with new products, but no photos. :)

Yes, I do have the Manta Ray XM-L C8. I bought it from KD quite some time ago for a few dollars more than the current Bestofferbuy price (the latter seems the same light as mine).

Reflector outer depth is 36mm vs. the 31mm of the C8 replacement I bought from Manafont for my F15, which came in OP version. The Manta reflector finish seems to be of a higher quality, but although deeper, it casts the same size hotspot and a considerably broader and brighter corona. Actually, corona makes an effective intermediate brigtness level between the marked hotspot and outer spill. Thus, the illumination of the walking path is pretty even from close to far. That's what I use it for daily, set to the 440mA Mid. A nice compromise between a well-lit walk and runtime. On High, mine draws 1.4A (the specs on KD state 1.5A) and 75mA on Low.

The driver is regulating, even constant power like (current starts raising after some initial voltage drop) and there is no PWM on any mode (or the frequency is too high for my wildly shaking hand to show it).

Being the light I prefer for walks, it turns out to be my most used one. Other flashlights will give me more brightness, more throw or more flood, but are used much less.

Thanks for the info, I ended up going with the Fandyfire.... I just love the name :) http://www.dealextreme.com/p/fandyfire-c10-cree-xm-l-3-mode-750-lumen-white-led-flashlight-with-strap-1-x-18650-1-x-17670-90124

It looks like this version has some good reviews. I have a couple extra drivers so if it ends up needing changed i'm set.

I really do like the idea of a 1.4-1.5A XM-L it should be very efficient and still throw a lot of light.

Seems the black twin of mine, down to the lens retaining screw ring (from a customer's picture).

The driver is not the same, though. Mine is 5 mode and DX specifies 2.8A. The sentence "The fresh fire-black TrustFire give only 2,6…2,8 A current. Job current after 15 minutes is less than 0.6 A for long time." may mean DD ?

Thank you agedbriar !

So all the photos I've linked are to be trusted. The reflector on UniqueFire C10, SuterFire C10, Manta Ray C8 are deeper than the traditional C8. Probably FandyFire C10 has the same reflector as the rest of the C10's. I do not understand why Manta Ray is called C8 since it's not looking as a C8 and definitely has that deeper reflector like the rest of the C10's.

Perhaps the C10 class didn't yet exist at that time ?

Differences between C10 & C8.

Reflector differences can be seen upper in the thread.
