Under $10, 1x AA/ AAA/ 10440/ 14500 flashlight reference

Boom…ordered 4…kids Christmas stocking stuffers if they make it here fast enuff

I bought one of those a while back and got a solid pill that made it easy to modify. Best #3 Zoomie out of many tries.

I (stupid, stupid, stupid!) bought three more recently.

They came in the same nice color-printed Rustu cardboard box.

But they’re crap now, same crap #3s you get for $2.99 on eBay that makes you feel burned when it arrives.

Burned, burned, burned.

Hollow pill, dirty dinged up pill, almost no ledge inside for heat transfer at all, BLUE-white emitter, oil inside on the threads which are pretty chewed up looking.

Oh, and the threads no longer even match the threads on the “3W Police” lights that used to work as extension tube donors.

Even cuter — although no review appears from me on the DX page, they won’t let me review it saying I reviewed it previously.

Okay, it was my turn on the big lottery spin, I had gotten decent products and decent treatment from DX for several years in a row.

They got me this time.

EDIT — and they did give me a refund —
BUT NOTE: I asked several times to change the old review on their site, when I praised the earlier version — and they never let that happen.

I can’t believe none of the Hugsbys made the list.
The XP-1 and XP-2 are superb quality AAA lights for the price (around $5).
Likewise the P31 for AA.

you’re right!
I have xp-1 and is very good, and the xp-2 in on his way
Maybe they are not here because we all have buy them on 11.11 deals on aliexpress. Serching last days, I’ve found only one or two seller with a budget price for Xp-2!

I am thinking about it, but like the others model, the only cons is sometime is difficoult to push the bottom to start. If they will have a better tailcap, probably will be the best budget flashlight around!

I’ve been wanting to order both Hugsby’s but they don’t accept paypal. How do you get
them w/out using a CC?

I got my XP-2 from ebay. Arrived in 10 days.

Aliexpress must be losing so much business by not using Paypal.

Done.

— that’s from bikedude at Can BangGood/GearBest staff learn how to identify a hollow or solid pill?

Cool! I somehow missed that. The collection is growing nicely.

Well new to me anyway. Hugsby XP-11 looks like the AA version of the popular XP-1

Only downside for me is the lack of a clip.

There is also a 2xAA version (XP-12) and a 3xAAA version (XP-13)

Awesome thanks. I really like the XP1 and been wanting one in AA format for about the same price. Must be a new model.

“Hi, my name is Lancman and I’m a Hugsbyholic.”

I must be; I want all 3 of them.

There, I’ve said it. I can no longer be in denial. Time to confront my demons.
Resist man, resist!….

I already got 5 XP1s and don’t have enough AAA Eneloops for them but I have a bunch of AAs so I need to get lights for them. So far got 5 AA Super Lights but I like the XP1 is better.

Me too!

Me three! There all kinds of new Hugsby's C8, S3, P3, etc. I don't need another single light but had to order the AA, 2AA, and the 18650 that is tube light style with side switch and power port.

EDIT: Opps, the 18650 is not a Hugsby. Oh well, only $4.72.

I don’t know what to think about the XP-11/XP-12… AA lights with only a CREE XP-E and 120 (China-?) lumen and one mode? But the XP-11 I’ve found seems to have a XP-G2/more lumen for a higher price:

But are there really different versions of Hugsbys?
I like my Hugsby P31, I had to replace the XR-E Emitter for a better beam (put in a XM-L2) but it has modes and more lumen in the end, and it takes 14500, too.

(Mine came from the tomtop ebay store)

And e.g. the Brinyte M15/Ultrafire C3 has more flexibility than a XP-12, it can take 1 or 2 cells, AA or 14500 and the Brinyte M15 has a XP-G2 and 5 modes with memory, too. The C3 comes with only XP-E and 3 Modes so it seems:

What speaks for the XP-11/12, is only the reasonable price. Please let me know (if you have one) the type of emitter installed.

I like the XPs because they are just superb value for money. Simple, honest, well-made lights at a bargain price. If you covered up the name on the XP-1 and told people it was a new model from, say, Tank 007 and cost $15, nobody would bat an eyelid. Hopefully the XP-11/12 will continue that trend. They certainly look just as well made.

Personally I prefer 1 mode in small lights for everyday work use. Nothing more annoying than faffing around with different modes when all you want is some quick light to see what you’re doing. But that’s just me.
I also applaud Hugsby for being far more realistic in their output claims.

There does seem to be a couple of different versions of the XP-11 but I wouldn’t pay twice as much for the XP-G/G2 one. More satisfying and cheaper to swap the LED out yourself if you want to (if you can get the head apart, that is).
It goes without saying that whoever gets one first will have to do a quick review for us.

My Hugby XP-11 and XP-12 arrived. Quality is on par with the XP-1/2 lights. Nice anodized finish on body and OP finish on the reflector and apparently AR coated lens. Threads are decent, have a decent fit, and are smooth enough to be considered acceptable. There were aluminum shavings in the threads that I brushed out with an old tooth brush. O-rings fit very nice and give the feel that light may be water tight. Emitter appears to by XP-E2, but I couldn't open the head by hand to verify.

Compared to the XP-1/2, the XP-11/12 have:

  • a much brighter beams across the board. Smaller, more intense hot spot. Much brighter spill. Beam diameter is the same diameter. The AA XP-11 is much brighter than the 2AAA XP-2. The 2AA XP-12 is much brighter than the AA XP-11.
  • a more neutral tint. XP-1/2 beam is slightly purple tinted in a side by side comparison to both the XP-11/12. The XP-11/12's have a very slight yellow tint in the corona.
  • single mode too.
  • No clip.

Two more great Hugsby bargains. No beam shots, been raining for days here. I just noticed the tail caps appear glossier in the below pics. In real life the cap caps are slightly more glossy, but not as much as the below pics indicate. The difference may be due to handling as I recall having some lube residue from the threads on my fingers.

13mm driver.

I was half hoping they would turn out to be rubbish so I had a good excuse not to get them. Oh well……

So the heads are glued like the XP-1/2?
It’s a shame they dropped the clip.
