Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Oh, I almost forgot . . . I did notice 3D Maglite LED's going for $18 on clearance. These were up near the registers at my store. And I also noticed that my store moved it's clearance section (probably a tactic).

dchomak, you're a machine. I hit a HD, but was not able to score any of those. All the Ryobi grinders were full price. I don't know if any were that specific model though. I did get a couple night lights for a penny each.

So what all did you score for a penny?

Would you please post a pic of that nightlight? Was it the one that turns on when it “hears” a smoke detector going off? All the HD’s around here had them on clearance for $2.03 but they either sold through at that price or I missed out.

It was only on that specific “BF” grinder. All their other grinders, even another 6” grinder are at full price. The BF grinder does not have a work light.
This store has 8 of these in stock at $15.04, so they are still out there at some stores.

Yes it was that light. The moved them to a clearance bin at the store I was at. Supposed to brighten when alarm goes off. Don't have time to take a pic right now. Will try to tonight.

This is not part of my big score on Sunday when I went thru Massachusetts to visit my brother, I will post those later.
I found this deal a couple of days ago using information that I had remembered from the start of this thread by ImA4wheelr.
In June of this year Lowes changed lines on clamps, vises etc and cleared out all of their Bessey line. To replace them, they brought in the Irwin line. A lot of those deals are posted in the Lowes Deal Alert Thread
At the same time, Home Depot cleared out their Irwin line and brought in Bessey. Some of us were able to benefit from the clearance carnage at BOTH stores!
Knowing this, whenever I see an Irwin product in Home Depot, I know that it still shouldn’t be there and could ring up for a penny.
The other day I found this item on a clearance shelf at HD, here is a pic of that same item in Lowes for they now carry Irwin.

But HD no longer does! So I grabbed it and……………
a penny.

I didn’t realize how useful this tap holder is until later. How many times in tapping a hole or chasing some threads has one had to “cheat” and to get extra torque have connected and adjustable wrench to the tap in order to turn it? Not only does this tap holder have that removable bar, but it is made to take a 3/8” ratchet. NICE.

There is little or no chance anyone else can find this deal, I am only pointing this out because there is more than 1 way to find these penny deals, this time with knowing when remnants of a previously carried line is found.

^ Great advice and find.

Up above you asked me to take a photo of the nightlight I got for penny. I apologize for not taking one last night. I can tell you that it isn't this one which is still full price. It looks pretty much the same though.

Got a nice Hunter ceiling fan for $25.03 a couple of days ago. Was really hoping that it would ring up for a penny but, no such luck. Either way, I was in need of a ceiling fan and $25 is a heck of a deal!

Yea, that is a heck of a deal. And I know what you were thinking, should I buy it now at a heck of a good price or wait and try and get it for a penny and probably not get it and miss out entirely. If you need it then it is definitely better to take the sure thing.
I remember once when I held a tag sale, I had something marked at 50 cents, I don’t remember what, but say it was worth $10. A guy came up and offered me 25 cents! Without really thinking I blurted out “50 cents is a good price, if that’s not cheap enough for you, then you really don’t need it in the first place!” After thinking about it, it was true. Having said that, IF it’s a penny!, well then I WANT it, whether I need it or not.
Right now I’m home eating lunch a getting ready to go to HD to get a starter ballast for a florescent light fixture and I’m going to have to pay FULL price. |(

Here you go, I hope you appreciate me doing your work for you
As I said, these were everywhere when they were $2.03, but when they went to a penny I couldn’t find any :frowning:

I got one of those hunter fans for my parents about a week ago.

My closest Home Depot is 30 miles from my home, and is awkwardly located, making it difficult to get into and out of when I am close by. It's a particularly poor one, and I've never found any good deals there. If it was closer or more convenient, I'd stop by more often to look for deals. Cry

Thank you ImA4Wheelr. Your post of the “wrong” one, the one still at full price and my subsiquent posting of the “right” one, made me aware of the subtle difference between the 2 and allowed me to spot the penny one from a distance. The wrong one has the red bar across the package and the right one doesn’t.

I had to go to a Home Depot today to pick up an exterior pre-hung door, and being as  as I am I decided to change out our door on the coldest day of the year. Of course on the way to the back of the store, I scanned the isles looking for you know what. Saw this from 30 feet away.

3 of the penny lights hiding amongst with one of the “wrong” ones. The wrong one sells for $9.97, but there they were, 3 penny lights hanging right out in plain sight. So I grabbed them and headed for the self checkout line.
I have never seen this before, CLOSED!

So, I went to the back of the store to get my door carrying the lights with me hoping that when I come back it will be open. I met with a sales person and he even went and got me a flat bed cart to carry the door. I went back up front to the self checkout and it was STILL closed. Nothing left to do now except bring the lights back and miss out on the penny deal.
I re-hung the lights and headed back to checkout, only NOW self checkout is open again! So I went back got the lights and went to self checkout. Because the door is so large I first asked the self checkout girl to scan the SKU for me, Then I asked her for the 5% discount for using my HD credit card, THEN I scanned the 3 lights. For it to work out it had to be done in that order.

As for finding penny deals all I can offer as encouragement is, I can do it, others have done it and you can do it too.

Penny deals can be right under your nose, but if you don’t have the eyes to see you’re going to miss them.

EDIT: This time I paid less than I penny because I asked for and got my 5% discount for using my credit card. 5% off of 0.01 is 0.0095

Over Christmas I had a 1000 mile round trip. As such I took the time to stop at a few HD’s along the way up and along the way back (took different routes). I was able to score some very good deals (sub $10) but I did manage to grab some things for a penny as well.

These are the penny deals that I found on my journey.

HDMI to HDMI mini adapters: Useful for those that have non iPad tablets and want to show something on their TV or computer.

VGA to HDMI adapters: Useful for connecting older computers to newer TV’s

And the same mini work lights that dchromak has been getting. I actually found these stuck upside down on the metal rack with no price tagged. I recognized them and sure enough they scanned for a penny! I got two but the other one is already in my office at work so it’s not pictured here.

Not everything I bought was a penny though. I got this Lifetime Warranty Ceiling fan for my parents for $23.03

And I also missed out on a fantastic deal. I saw these sitting at $2.03 and didn’t grab any. When I got a little farther down the road and realized how stupid that was, I figured “oh well I’ll grab some at another store”. EVERY OTHER HD I stopped at had them at full price. GRRR……

Anyway. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I know the HD about 15 mins from me has those safety lights a couple posts up. I may head over there this weekend to try and score them for a penny as well.

xj, nice to see that you got in on the penny deals. Good job!

Last week I had to run into HD early one morning and I noticed that they had changed the prices on some of the clearance items. One that was not changed was the VGA to HDMI converter that xjsnake scored. I did take one up when I was ready to check out to scan. Even though it was priced at $15.03 it scanned at a penny.
The problem was that when I scanned it, it jammed up the scanner. I had no choice but to quickly move to another scanner and check out with it. As I left the store with what I originally came in for and the HDMI converter, I noticed that the selfcheckout person was printing out a copy of my receipt. She had noticed the penny scan. I knew what that meant, she was going to alert someone what had happened and there were 4 more still hanging in the store. I walked to my van, I did not run, (I still have some dignity) to off load what I already had and went back in. By the time I got back they were gone, pulled by an employee. Oh well.
That HDMI converter is not just an adapter but an active analog to digital converter that originally sold for $60. It had inputs for both audio and analog VGA signals and combines them into an HDMI output that contains digital signals of the both the audio and video.
A couple of days later I found myself traveling to visit my brothers house in central Massachusetts. I would normally get there by traveling in a North Easterly direction for 75 miles. I found that I traveled due North, then East I could hit 4 new HD’s that I had not ever visited before. That trip would only be an extra 25 miles.
My haul for the day was 7 more of the VGA to HDMI converters, 3 HDMI to micro HDMI and 1 HDMI to mini HDMI adapters. Also 3 more of the mini worklights and the small doggy trainer that I posted about in #228.

This store had 5 of the converters, I think because they were still priced at $46.06.

This Massachusetts store still has these “penny” lights that had been cleared out of CT stores at a penny. They are just now starting their clearance trajectory, $.00 to $.06 to $.03 to a penny.

This store had 2 of the HDMI converters marked at $15.03, but rang up at a penny.

Still another store just starting the price markdown

Most of these bulbs I have already been able to get for a penny

Here are a couple of items that are about to go to a penny

That remote is also at my local HD in 2 places in the store, marked at $5.03 at one location and $15.06 in the other. It is a “learning” remote.

Damn, amazing scores. Congrats :)

Darn! I could make use of the vga to hdmi units! I'll have to look for those!

Garry, no prob, I can take care of you.
I’ll be opening up a give away thread anyway.

Besides, tomorrow my wife and I are traveling to Washington DC and she says we can stop at some HD’s along the way.

You are my new hero

I just did a web search for “penny deals home depot” and found lots of web sites describing the phenomenon.

http://couponlikeaman.com/profiles/blogs/home-depot-penny-items?xg_source=activity
etc.
etc.
etc.
So, we have not come across anything new. This has been going on for years. What this does mean, beyond any shadow of doubt, is that this is a REAL phenomenon and can be repeated again and again. Do not think that it is just something peculiar to certain stores or certain people. It can be done by anyone, if they are willing to give it a try.

So Bort, am I still your hero?

It does not work in Canada
Frequent travel, HD, weird hobby, understanding spouse, i would venture a say at yes

I’ve got at least 2 that I’ll hit tomorrow in hopes of finding some more of what I posted above. With a little know how and some diligence you can score some great deals.
