Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

xj, nice to see that you got in on the penny deals. Good job!

Last week I had to run into HD early one morning and I noticed that they had changed the prices on some of the clearance items. One that was not changed was the VGA to HDMI converter that xjsnake scored. I did take one up when I was ready to check out to scan. Even though it was priced at $15.03 it scanned at a penny.
The problem was that when I scanned it, it jammed up the scanner. I had no choice but to quickly move to another scanner and check out with it. As I left the store with what I originally came in for and the HDMI converter, I noticed that the selfcheckout person was printing out a copy of my receipt. She had noticed the penny scan. I knew what that meant, she was going to alert someone what had happened and there were 4 more still hanging in the store. I walked to my van, I did not run, (I still have some dignity) to off load what I already had and went back in. By the time I got back they were gone, pulled by an employee. Oh well.
That HDMI converter is not just an adapter but an active analog to digital converter that originally sold for $60. It had inputs for both audio and analog VGA signals and combines them into an HDMI output that contains digital signals of the both the audio and video.
A couple of days later I found myself traveling to visit my brothers house in central Massachusetts. I would normally get there by traveling in a North Easterly direction for 75 miles. I found that I traveled due North, then East I could hit 4 new HD’s that I had not ever visited before. That trip would only be an extra 25 miles.
My haul for the day was 7 more of the VGA to HDMI converters, 3 HDMI to micro HDMI and 1 HDMI to mini HDMI adapters. Also 3 more of the mini worklights and the small doggy trainer that I posted about in #228.

This store had 5 of the converters, I think because they were still priced at $46.06.

This Massachusetts store still has these “penny” lights that had been cleared out of CT stores at a penny. They are just now starting their clearance trajectory, $.00 to $.06 to $.03 to a penny.

This store had 2 of the HDMI converters marked at $15.03, but rang up at a penny.

Still another store just starting the price markdown

Most of these bulbs I have already been able to get for a penny

Here are a couple of items that are about to go to a penny

That remote is also at my local HD in 2 places in the store, marked at $5.03 at one location and $15.06 in the other. It is a “learning” remote.

Damn, amazing scores. Congrats :)

Darn! I could make use of the vga to hdmi units! I'll have to look for those!

Garry, no prob, I can take care of you.
I’ll be opening up a give away thread anyway.

Besides, tomorrow my wife and I are traveling to Washington DC and she says we can stop at some HD’s along the way.

You are my new hero

I just did a web search for “penny deals home depot” and found lots of web sites describing the phenomenon.

http://couponlikeaman.com/profiles/blogs/home-depot-penny-items?xg_source=activity
etc.
etc.
etc.
So, we have not come across anything new. This has been going on for years. What this does mean, beyond any shadow of doubt, is that this is a REAL phenomenon and can be repeated again and again. Do not think that it is just something peculiar to certain stores or certain people. It can be done by anyone, if they are willing to give it a try.

So Bort, am I still your hero?

It does not work in Canada
Frequent travel, HD, weird hobby, understanding spouse, i would venture a say at yes

I’ve got at least 2 that I’ll hit tomorrow in hopes of finding some more of what I posted above. With a little know how and some diligence you can score some great deals.

I struck out today on penny deals. I did however find out that the spray misters I posted about in #217 have gone to $1.90 each. I grabbed some more.

^ I typically strike out too. That is why I like to say dcho has some kind of "finder" power.

I’ve gotten 8 penny items in the last week. I’d say it’s absolutely doable without dchromak’s searchfoo

I struck out 4 times today. 3 times in CT and once in NJ but tomorrow is another day. On our way to D.C.

Darn snow stopped me from going anywhere here in ohio :(

Where in Ohio? I hit the store in Ashtabula last month.

port clinton, once i get the hang of it ill go to more HD stores

Well I struck out on the HDMI adapters, found no penny deals, but did get some "deals":

Gonna give this cable a try. (Sorry for the bad pic; it was tough to get it due to the reflection of the light.)

These timers are all over the store on clearance. I bought one of the one on the left.

I picked up one of these just because it was interesting and only $2.52. Oh, and those same ol' same ol' Phillips MR16 LED bulbs are STILL marked at $17.00 in my HD's clearance area! In fact I didn't spot anything with a "3" price (other than the cable above) that was worth checking on a "penny deal". I also saw a lot of yellow clearance price tags with no dates on them. When I did see dates they were no older than December 2014.

I think I’ll have to go check again… I could definitely use a vga-to-hdmi adapter, and if they have any of those Philips bulbs for cheap that would be helpful too.

I had to run to the local HD today (which usually isn’t great) to grab some flat steel to fix my jeep’s seat. While I was there I came across a light fixture that I knew had been marked with a .03. It was unpriced and buried in the clearance section.

Sure enough it rang up for a penny. So if you see these in your store, grab them.

XJ, I have never noticed those, I will be on the lookout.
On the same note, here is a score of an oldie but goodie that was mixed in with the current stock. The cheaper worklight that has gone from full list to 3.04 to 1.52 to .01. It looks a lot like the current worklight that HD has that sells for $11.47. Here is one I found in a box of the others. I can recognize it as is not fully enveloped in a clear acrylic package.

Side by side with it’s replacement. Rang up for a penny.

Here’s a couple of other things I spotted. Recently, 01/01/15, JonnyC posted about the High CRI Bulbs at 6.50 and 7.50

Well the other day I noticed that they have been reduced another 4 cents. What’s important about that is that this means that they are now on the reduction spiral, their priced and amounts that end in “6”
With a date of 11/19/2014, it will be a long time before we see a lower price that ends with the “3”

Here’s 2 items that should go to a penny any day now. With dates of 07/03/2014. Even though the remotes are priced at 15.06, right now they will ring up at 5.03. The store is definitely not on the ball on this item. I figure this will go to a penny on or about 01/23/2014

^ That Phillips light just the left of the camera and above your hand. Got one of those for a penny a month or so ago. It's a remote phosphor type light and puts out a pretty pleasant tint and even light.
