I have always used synthetic rear end oil.
Got a pint of it from work and it works great for me.
What's rear end oil? Sounds dirty... =O

I bought locally 100ml of sewing machine lubricant fro dirt cheap. I use that, also for a hair trimmer. :) Silicone based for sure.
I use bisely silicone gun oil, deoxit and a special ptfe grease on my lights. Got some nextorch silicone grease in the mail, but have not tried it yet.
I use die-electric grease, the same stuff used used to seal out crud from car headlight plugs. Good for lubing the threads too. A cheaper die-electric grease might be the stuff used to aid the conduction in aluminum house wiring at the main panel....used between the aluminum wire and the copper bus bars.

Works for me. I got a cheap dispenser bottle from DX.
Use normal multigrade engine oil in it. Works for me.
If it doesn't, I use silicone grease or Copaslip (http://www.molyslip.co.uk/anti_sieze_compounds/) if the threads are really nasty and if I can find the tube. Which I bought in 1981. A little of the stuff goes a very long way.
Thanks buddy, now that is something that i need.......i noticed that with the Silicone Grease that when the light would warm up and get hot that the grease would just flow everywhere.......needed something better so i started using my rc shock oil for it and works so much better.
I either use machine oil or honing oil on my threads and orings. I don't like using grease because it gets everywhere whenever I change batteries...lol Guess I'm a bit messy.
Rear end oil....hahaha.

I either use silicone lube from little tubes that came with camera equipment or dive equipment. You can also get a little dish of silicone grease at any dive store that will last you forever. It's the size of an Oreo Cookie.
Please avoid using petroleum-based lubes on your O-rings, as it will cause them to degrade.
This means no machine oil, motor oil, or rear end lube (lol.)
While most dielectric greases are silicone-based, I would avoid their use as well. Any transfer of DG from the threads to the unanodized portion of the body can affect light output.

You are correct, I typed before thinking. The grease used for aluminum house wiring is anti-ox, a conducive "compound" and a bout $3-$5 a tube.
So where can one get some of that GB tube......would not mind giving it a try.

It'll be fine. These days I'm using engine oil dispensed from a syringe with a filling cannula attached to it - but I work in a hospital where such stuff is easy to get hold of.
