from the globe up it gets really hot. There would be a 15 minute or more wait for it to cool down.

That’s extremely cool, as it can be used indoors. Now you just need a way to generate that signature hiss of the pressurized gas lanterns.

maybe a small AM radio hidden behind it with the tuner set between channels so the static plays at just the right volume. :bigsmile:

A custom sound module would be cool, you could select from different noises. I believe car companies have gotten a bit creative on sound modules for hybrid cars so people can hear them in parking lots, especially the blind.

Really neat build. Who would do such a thing? I wish I thought of it! I love how unique, intelligent and straight forward this design is. It must have been a real struggle to keep it so simple and clean even with that remote. (If it wasn’t a struggle then lie, embellish a bit to make me feel better about myself) Nice, keep it up.

its just a simple design with common parts we use for flashlights. :slight_smile:

I have been doodling ideas for a lamp for camping use this summer and true to form for me, they are overly complex with liquid cooling and fans and yadda, yadda. I’m going to have to scrap all that. I can get the 2000 lumens in a much more simple format and spend less time and money on it. Your design sets a great example in design philosophy that I need to learn/ integrate.

A similar set up using a modded 105C Q-lite Rev. with zener, eight 18650 cells in 2S4P Config with a MT-G2 on a small Computer CPU heat-sink will give you your 2000 lumens and reasonable run times in a modded lantern. ( i am already working on another lantern with that set up.)

Your lantern project sounds amazing, and I would like to attempt something like this one day (despite my limited knowledge of electronics).
Unfortunately I cannot see your photos as an image displaying “photo not found” is all I can see.
I am finding this on most of the older forum posts.
Is it just me or are the older links just not working anymore?
Is there any way to view the photos of your project?

I probably should have said on older posts by other people, photos are also not displaying.

Ah ok, that’t when photo bucket closed all free accounts trying to force all their users to pay a high price for photo hosting. I will fix the photos when i can find them and upload them to my new hosting place for images.

I have a few old oil lanterns which I may try to convert to battery/Led one day, but I’m not very skilled at electronics or even soldering.
I’m reasonably capable at handyman projects to do with my home maintenance, and have replaced and wired up a few light fittings, plugs, switches etc, but that’s about the extent of my electrical experience.

I am also quite interested to see the photos of this now, please post a few.
