Yep, I like the location and it's different than the norm. I do believe the SP03 will not be as bright. Even with 9 amps per led, I think this 4-up will give more total lumens, but I am hoping the SP03 will give more throw, due to larger reflectors.
One thing for sure is that whenever I do these monsters, I just don't appreciate a single led light any more. The HD2010 with an MT-G2 was what I carried every night, but now I don't even want to turn it on.
Ever since I have joined this forum I have noticed an utter disdain for multi emitter lights greater than 3. Probably a throw back to the early days when the brightest LED lights were those 9 emitter 3xAAA ones. Back then as is the case now, the most effective way to get a lot of light is to use a lot of emitters.
Maybe now attitudes will change and it will be OK to build these kinds of lights again.
Edit:
I say this because, in effect, OL just built himself a 16 emitter light.
More photos in the OP. This thread will probably sit for a month, as the custom driver that RMM just designed, has to go thru Oshpark and then to him, so a good month, knowing how Oshpark works.
I agree and then again, I don't. Multi emitter lights are great if you; have a lot of money for components, have a huge heat sink and great heat transfer, have tons of high amp batteries and have a sling to carry the heavy beast. They are super bright and if you do want to light up a football field, a huge building, a cave, or just a huge area, they are great. But... they will never have long run times and they are not very practical or compact.
I do think everyone needs something like this, just to be able to show it off. Imagine this in a football stadium? Just before the cops took you buddy away. (here hold this for a minute). Well, you wouldn't want to get arrested yourself would ya?
It seriously hurt my eyes, seeing the real thing! Even being behind it was bad. I would never want to turn it on a person or animal. I think it could be permanent damage for whatever was on the receiving end.
