Does it have a solid pill of hollow pill?
The regular reflector has a solid pill. The zoomie appears to have a hole below the led star.
This is what I got. Not sure it is the same for all 601Z.
I would say that the crappy design is limited to the zoom version. The 601 and 602 regular reflector do not have that hole.
It looks like Klarus has updated their RS20 so that the side now uses XM-L color led. (But most vendor sites that that I looked at just now still list the previous RS20 with the ‘switchable’ led).

Which one can be driven harder, MCE or XML color?
mce is rated for 700mA, xml for 1A. the die projection in zoomies is better with the mce though.

in 2019 are there any torches/flashlights with really bright rgb(w) leds like cree xm-l? i am struggling to find any. really i want a mini party light. thinking of making my own and having it usb powered 
Not sure if those are Cree XM-L but I have a Convoy M2 with a red Epileds 5050 and it's quite bright. I guess about 300 lumens.

I'm very much interested into the Lumileds SST-90-R that can be driven to more than 13A. But these are probably difficult to put into a flashlight and require special centering rings and reflector apertures.
I’ve looked and looked to for a few years now - nothing. I even bought the multi led and driver and built my own in a host, sadly it lasted a week or so and the red part/emitter/quarter died.

Here is tab dump of my current diy research. I am not going to try and make it fit in a torch housing. thinking of reusing motor bike led light housing. i want it to be a flood patten. so i dont need lens, just heat dump and protection.
To drive it, a bunch of little driver modules, else some resistors. 5v usb supply.
to control, a little rgbw led strip control module. there cheap and easy to get. some of the really cheap simple ones can be driven from 5v i think. they are not good for video as the pwm stripping shows up in any video of the light output.

btw this is the only rgbw flashlight i know of, uses a colour xm-l cree led. so should be nice and bright. the white led version of this torch i got around £20~ in a flash sale a few years ago.

its £47! with no fade modes, so ive not been rushing for it.
I missed the release of that Skilhunt RGBW light, it is pretty neat! What I would like better is lower modes for the colour modes as well (it just has that for the white channel). I would not mind a deal on that one!
Have you seen the Walther Pro PL75mc? It is a focusable RGBW torch.

any ideas for a xm-l rgbw enclosure + heatsink?
was thinking of using old computer heatsink but really a protected weather sealed one would be better. doesnt need to have space for batteries. just the led and heatsink, bonus points for room for some electronics. been looking at cheap motor bike,bicycle,car led lights to repurpose.
i guess for being on all the time, it needs to be a big heatsink, not the very minimal bicycle light style heatsinks? though if its colour fading/strobe then i guess heat less of a issue.
would be really nice if it could fit into a big/huge trouser pocket.
