what got you in to lights

i liked torches from a early age as far back as i can remember not sure what sparked my interest though

we lived at the end of our street in a small mining village

street lighting was poor and beyond our house was fields and open land

i remember having a eveready flat square torch which took a square flat battery torch had blue body and white head with a side push switch it was made from a heavy Bake-o-lite type of plastic

I'm pretty sure a fenix E0 would give out more light run-time was poor and batteries expensive way back then

Im an avid Ghosthunter, just another hobby of mine. I used to lug around a 3D mag and a AAA light that i bought from radioshack that had a Luxeon led in it. Got tired of lugging it around and started searching for smaller brighter lights that i could carry. My search began with getting a wf606a from dx that contained a Cree P4 emitter, i thought that sucker was bright in those days. It served well when the lights went out in a clients home or in the field.

In tight dark spaces. Sometimes while trying to figure out where you are. Light, and lots of it is very helpful. The typical supermarket 2D incan with low batteries just didn't work for me any more. Got a "7W" Golston, burned out its "driver" which was a resistor. Replaced it and it just took off from there. Now own rather a lot of lights.

I also have another story about why im glad i got into lights.....when Hurricane Katrina hit us we were without power for 2 weeks, all i had for lights was a 3D Mag and also a 2D Mag. Im just glad that i was able to stock up on D cells the day it hit us hard. It was used as a nightlight and for everything else.

My first light was 2 AA Eveready torch, rectangular, with a slide switch. Many other Evereadys followed after that. A favourite of mine those days was a 2D made in China, aluminium bodied flashlight, with a focusing head ! Cool for it's time.

My first LED torch was actually home made. Just soldered a 1/4" White LED onto bulb base and used it in a 2AA penlight.

I got my first flashlight when I was 10 years old, along with my first pocket knife. Dad gave me a .22 for Christmas that same year 8-)

I have been light, knife, gun nut ever since.

My grandmother was asleep when the cabin was hit by lightning ... it ran down the mast of our sailboat that was stored in the rafters and blew a hole in the wall 6 feet above her head .She ended up using a 2C metal eveready flashlight to hike 1/2 mile thru the woods in the pouring rain to another neighbors cabin ..because the closer neighbors cabin (200 feet away )was burning to the ground. In the middle of the night on a path in the woods the flashlight is only working sporadically if you bang on it ..The only other light is theflames ofthe cabin on fire and propane tanks that when heated up the pressure relief valve opens and flames shoot up into the air into surrounding 80 ft pine trees...

Oh yeah... she was having a heart attack too .

A flashlight is a tool ..no one in their right mind buys junk tools .

first light was a flood to throw ... best bang for your buck for a newbie or a non flashaholic .

At work we rely greatly on torches und everyone was issued with a rather large 6v lantern battery type light. It was bright enough for most tasks but runtime was relatively poor and it wasn't pocketable. I checked on ebay and got myself one of those 5$ multi led lights. I thought that was superb but they kept breaking and runtime was too short even though batteries in our place are free issue (Duracell Alkalines). So I figured I needed a high quality AA light and somehow found the Fenix L2D which I bought for £35. I still have it and this light sparked everything not just for me. Almost everyone at work now has a high quality led light in his pocked and the old incan lights are nowhere to be seen.

Mine started with my parents..........

They never should have bought me a night light when I was a kid. lol

Honestly it was when I went into the military. Seen some coworkers with some bright lights and been hooked since.

Got hooked on my first mountain climbing experience, i brought with me a 9led 3xAAA light and a police lichao generic led 1xAA and thought I got good lights but at night in the summit, a group of guys did a night climb arriving at camp during the night with really bright flashlights which I believe are surefires, after that done my research then the rest is history. I just couldn't stop buying new lights.

Coz it is dark at night? Wink

and the carrot thing was not working.......

This harbor freight review pretty much sums it up for me... I like blinding people at night

Comments about Gordon 6-3/4" 109 LED Flashlight:

Flashlight provides an overwhelming amount of light if directed at the face of another person during periods of darkness."

I got an ever ready dolphin light as a child. Its my parents fault......

I had one of those, it had a light blue back and a white belly!

Yep, all their fault.

I was hooked as a child when I was given one of those old tin flashlights with the red plastic bezel, bar magnet on the side, and the slide switch with the morse code button in the switch. It was love at first sight and I've been fascinated ever since. I believe it was an old Eveready light.

as a child I had a "diving" flashlight which sort of worked :) and about a year ago I got into geocaching and night biking, so I needed something better
